A portable fan is provided with a remote control assembly to facilitate its use by handicapped persons. The switch on the fan is operated by a radio controlled receiver, and a hand held transmitter is designed to permit a user to select multiple fan speeds and direction of blade rotation. Additionally, the transmitter emits audible beeps so as to allow the use of the remote fan control by blind individuals.

An outlet assembly (10) is assembled from different shaped end modules (14,16,18) and any number of standard intermediate modules (20). Depending on the desired shape and length of the assembly (10), two of the end modules (14,16,18) are selected with any number of the intermediate modules (20) assembled therewith forming a housing (22). A ventilation nozzle assembly is described that includes a first air outlet channel configured to provide an air flow in a first direction, a second air outlet channel adjacent the first air outlet channel configured to provide an air flow in a second direction, a third air outlet channel adjacent the second air outlet channel and configured to provide an air flow in a third direction, and a fourth air outlet channel adjacent the third air outlet channel and configured to provide an air flow in a fourth directions. An air flow from the third air outlet channel is configured reduce an impact of the air flow from the fourth air outlet channel has on the air flows from the first air outlet channel and the second air outlet channel.

An air outlet grille for walls or ceilings for uniformly distributing air in a room without turbulence or drafts. The grille incorporates a plurality of air projecting modules, which may have different projection properties, to conform to the position of the grille in the room by combining modified individual air streams and fluidic distribution of the propelled air and integrating ambient room air forming a uniform coaductive flow of decelerating air in the room involved. The different modules are interchangeable in a particular grille to provide combined air outlet patterns to conform to the shape of the area involved.

Variable air distribution system

The present air diffuser has one or more unitary strips of adjoining tetrahedronal wedges which are progressively inclined and leaned laterally to deflect the supply air laterally outward beyond the diffuser for creating a wide, coherent, non-turbulent air blanket. At the outside of the diffuser, the wedge strip presents a series of adjoining triangular front faces which are imperforate to minimize air turbulence there when ambient room air is induced into the supply air stream emerging from the diffuser.

The present air diffuser has a generally rectangular bottom panel mounted immediately below the outlet of a ceiling air duct. Along each side an inverted wedge strip is positioned to project across the ceiling a coherent blanket of the supply air which has been deflected horizontally outward by the bottom panel. The wedges are arranged to substantially equalize the air supply along each side, avoiding air "starvation" at the corners, thus providing a continuous coherent blanket of radial air flow. At the downstream side of each wedge strip, the altitude of each inverted wedge at its apex is substantially twice its spacing there from the bottom panel, in order to project the desired coherent blanket of air. The base of each wedge strip and the adjacent periphery of the bottom panel are inclined downward and outward to accomplish rapid induction and velocity reduction before the coherent blanket returns to the ceiling, assuring fast temperature blending and avoiding ceiling soilage. The bottom panel has a double wall construction to avoid moisture condensation and drippage from the bottom.
