Automatic calibration of dispense parameters of a product dispense system is accomplished via electronic communication of product information. A chemical product includes an electronically readable tag or label that stores and communicates chemical product data concerning the chemical product to a chemical product dispenser. The chemical product data may include, for example, the name of the chemical product, the type or class of the chemical product, manufacturing information regarding the chemical product (e.g., manufacturing date, location, serial number, lot number, etc.), concentration of active ingredient(s), weight, volume, viscosity, density, hardness, specific gravity, shape, color, and/or other data concerning the chemical product. A controller within the dispenser automatically calibrates the dispense parameters based on the chemical product data.

Apparatus for continuous flow weighing of a flowable material includes a pair of sequential conveyors. A first, control conveyor moves material from an inlet to a discharge point. A second, weighing conveyor is mounted for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis at its inlet end. The pivot point is positioned below the discharge of the control conveyor. The outlet end of the weighing conveyor is suspended from and weighed by a load cell. Electronic control circuitry monitors the material transport rate of the weighing conveyor which, in combination with the output of the loadcell, is used to determine the weight flow rate of material being discharged from the weighing conveyor. A chemical product dispenser that controls dispensation of a chemical product based on a change in weight of the chemical product remaining in the dispenser includes an isolation mechanism. The dispenser includes a weight measurement instrument, such as one or more load cells, that measure the weight of the chemical product remaining the dispenser. The isolation mechanism is configured to lift the chemical product from a lowered position in which the weight of the chemical product is fully supported by the load cell(s) to a raised position in which the weight of the chemical product is fully supported by the isolation mechanism. When in the raised position, the dispenser may be loaded with a supply of chemical product with a reduced risk of damage to the weight measurement instrument.

Particle dispensing apparatus coats one or more surfaces of a workpiece such as a moving web, strip, sheet, plate or flat wire. Particles are fed from at least one source over fluidized conveyors to separate particle applicators associated with each surface to be coated. Each particle applicator includes a receiver-dispenser having a fluidized bed and counter-rotating brush rolls which continuously picks up fluidized particles and discharges them against one of the surfaces to be coated in an amount which varies with particle level in the receiver-dispenser. A separate load cell supports each receiver-dispenser and drives a load indicator which produces weight signals that are related to particle level in each receiver-dispenser. A controller receiving the weight signals acts on the conveyor means to independently maintain a predetermined level of particles in each receiver-dispenser. This provides a uniform application of particles on each surface of the workpiece to be coated.

Particle dispensing apparatus and method

Improved apparatus for the continuous coating of one side only of a metal strip with molten coating metal, more particularly, one side galvanizing of a ferrous metal strip. Characteristics of the invention are (1) an atmosphere controlled entry chute through which said metal strip passes into the molten coating metal, (2) a deflector roll which guides said strip into and out of said molten coating metal, where the width of said deflector roll is less than the width of said strip and said strip is only slightly immersed below the surface of said molten coating metal, (3) movable guide means adapted to shift laterally with corresponding movement of said strip, and (4) gas jets secured to said guide means and directed towards edges of the uncoated surface of said strip projecting beyond said deflector roll to prevent molten metal from contacting said uncoated surface.

Apparatus for one side coating of a continuous strip

Improved method for the continuous coating of one side only of a metal strip with molten coating metal, more particularly, one side galvanizing of a ferrous metal strip. The method includes moving a metal strip, supported by a deflector roll having a width less than that of the strip, in an arcuate path through a bath of molten coating metal with the side of the strip to be uncoated contacting the deflector roll. To prevent coating of the strip, a stream of gas is directed toward the edges of the side of the strip contacting the roll which project beyond the roll and against the surface of the bath.
