Measurement of 226Ra concentration and radon exhalation rate in rock samples from Al-Qusair area using CR-39

In this study, the so-called sealed can technique dosimeters have been used to determine the radon exhalation rates in soil samples collected from different sites in Bethlehem region- Palestine. For the measurement of radon concentration emanated from these samples, alpha-sensitive, Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTD’s) have been used. A total of 82 soil samples were collected simultaneously. It was found that the radon concentrations in these soil samples varied from 19.1 Bqm−3 to 572.9 Bqm−3 with an average value of 145.0 Bqm−3. The radon exhalation rate in these collected samples also varied from 6.9 mBqm−2 h−1 (0.26 mBqkg−1 h−1) to 207.2 mBqm−2 h−1 (7.84 mBqkg−1 h−1) with an a total average value of 52.2 mBqm−2 h−1 (1.97 mBqkg−1 h−1). All the values of radium content in all samples under test were found to be quite lower than the corresponding the global value 30 Bqkg−1. The present results show that the radon concentration and the resulting doses in all soil samples are below the allowed limit from ICRP. The radiological health implication to the population that may result from these doses is found to be low. The measurements have been taken as representing a baseline database of values of these radionuclides in the soils in the area. The results were compared with national and worldwide results.

Determination of radon exhalation rates in soil samples using sealed can technique and CR-39 detectors.

Radon exhalation rate from soil is one of the most important factors for evaluation of the environmental radon level. Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors (CR-39) has been widely used for the study of different aspects of radon emission from soil and others. In this paper, we are presenting the results of radon concentration, its exhalation rate and radium content in soil samples collected from different locations of northern part of Aden governorate, south of Yemen. The outdoor radon levels concentrations were found to vary from 264.59Bq m-3 to 539.72Bq m-3 with a mean value of 369.29Bq m-3. The radon exhalation rate in terms of area and in terms of mass were found to vary from 460.08 mBq.m-2.h-1to 938.47mBq.m-2.h-1with a mean value of 642.12mBq.m-2.h-1 and from 25.99mBq.m-2.h-1 to 53.02mBqkg-1.h-1 with a mean value of 36.28 mBqkg-1.h-1. The results of effective radium concentrations in these sites were found to vary from 3.44 Bqkg-1 to 7.01 Bqkg-1 with a mean value of 4.80Bqkg-1. The working level varied from 4.54mWL to 9.26mWL with a mean value of 6.34mWL. The radon annual effective dose was varied from 0.049mSvy-1 to 0.100mSvy-1 with a mean value of (0.068±0.18) mSvy-1 for outdoor and from 0.20mSvy-1 to 0.40mSvy-1 with a mean value of 0.27mSvy-1 for indoor. The results indicate that the soil is quite safe for occupancies and to be used as building materials.

The annual effective dose of granite rock samples using alpha track detector

In the present work, we have measured the radon gas concentration in ten fertilizers samples for three kinds {mixed fertilizer (M.F), triple super phosphate (T.S.P), single super phosphate (S.S.P)} by using alpha-emitters registrations which are emitted form radon gas in (CR-39) nuclear track detector. The results obtained have shown that the highest average radon gas concentration in fertilizer samples was found in triple super phosphate sample (T.S.P), which was (177.5 Bq/m3) (Iran origin), while the lowest average radon gas concentration was found in single super phosphate (S.S.P) sample, which was (72.2 Bq/m3) (Iraq origin) .The present results show that the radon gas concentration in all fertilizers samples is below the allowed limit from (International Commission of Radiation Protection) (ICRP) agency.

Measurement of radon gas concentration in fertilizer samples by using nuclear track detector (CR-39)

In this paper, forty samples of building materials collected from local market in Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt. The radon concentration in these samples were measured using solid state nuclear track detector. Solid state nuclear track detectors have become an important tool in every investigation of the radon levels in the surrounding environment. The obtained results have shown that the highest average of radon concentration in granite samples and the average value is 845.43 Bqm-3, while the lowest average value is white cement 68.42 Bqm-3. The present work is important to detect any harmful radiation in our houses that affect human and to establish a data base for building materials which, used in a local market. The obtained results show that the radon concentrations of the most samples are below the allowed limit of ICRP.
