Cleansing system using treated recirculating air

An air treatment system which includes a wire-like corona electrode and an air permeable target electrode arranged concentrically around the corona electrode with the electrodes connected to a d.c. voltage source having a voltage causing a corona discharge at the corona electrode and an ion wind through the target electrode. The target electrode may have a substantially cylindrical configuration, in which case air flows axially into the target electrode through one or both of the open ends thereof and exits from the target electrode radially through its air permeable wall. The target electrode may also be divided into two or more separate parts arranged essentially concentrically around the corona electrode in mutually uniform spaced relationship.

Ion generator or electrostatic environmental conditioner

An air cleaning apparatus includes a plurality of dust collecting electrodes alternately arranged with panel electrodes and spaced from each other at predetermined intervals to form air flow passages. Voltage is applied by a voltage source between the panel electrodes and the dust collecting electrodes and between ionizing wires, provided in the apparatus, and the dust collecting panel electrodes. The intervals between the panel electrodes and the dust collecting electrodes are selected to maintain a predetermined potential gradient in response to the value of the voltage applied between the panel electrodes and the dust collecting electrodes, whereby corona discharges are generated between the dust collecting electrodes and the ionizing wires to produce air streams. The dust collecting electrodes and the corresponding panel electrodes are coated with an ozone decomposition accelerating noble metal plating layer.

Air cleaning apparatus

An electrostatic dust collector is provided with an electrode unit including first and second electrodes arranged to oppose each other across a solid insulator and having positive and negative potentials respectively applied thereto, the second electrode being so disposed that a leading edge portion thereof is located at a position inwardly of a leading edge portion of the first electrode. A gas passageway is formed on a side of the second electrode opposite the first electrode, and an electrically conductive filter element is arranged in the gas passageway so as to be in contact with the second electrode. A gas to be purified, such as air, is forcibly passed through the passageway by a motor-driven fan. The filter element consists of a material, such as steel wool, made up of a multiplicity of fine fibers to provide a large surface area. Owing to its electrical contact with the second electrode, the filter element traps airborne particles on the fine fibers by electrostatic induction.

Electrostatic dust collector

An electronic air conditioner, in which a charging section, a dust collecting section (including an electrostatic dust collecting section and an ozone reducing section) and a negative ion generating section, known per se, are arranged in this order along the flow path of air extending from the air inlet to the air outlet in a casing of insulating material to provide a compact electronic air conditioner capable of air hearing, air cooling and air cleaning. At an appropriate position between the air inlet and the air outlet in the casing, a fan is provided to cause a flow of air. Between a mechanical filter provided at the air inlet and the negative ion generating section, a heat exchanger is provided to act on the flow of air for heating or cooling the same. The endothermic-and-thermoradiation fins of the heat exchanger can be also used as a dust collector if grounded.
