Recently, there has been a rapid growth in research and innovation in the natural fibre composite (NFC) area. Interest is warranted due to the advantages of these materials compared to others, such as synthetic fibre composites, including low environmental impact and low cost and support their potential across a wide range of applications. Much effort has gone into increasing their mechanical performance to extend the capabilities and applications of this group of materials. This review aims to provide an overview of the factors that affect the mechanical performance of NFCs and details achievements made with them.

Enhancing lubricant properties by nanoparticle additives

The prospect of modern tribology has been expanded with the advent of nanomaterial-based lubrication systems, whose development was facilitated by the nanotechnology in recent years. In literature, a variety of nanoparticles have been used as lubricant additives with potentially interesting friction and wear properties. To date, although there has been a great deal of experimental research on nanoparticles as lubricating oil additives, many aspects of their tribological behavior are yet to be fully understood. With growing number of possibilities, the key question is: what types of nanoparticles act as a better lubricating oil additive and why? To answer this question, this paper reviews main types of nanoparticles that have been used as lubricants additives and outlines the mechanisms by which they are currently believed to function. Significant aspects of their tribological behavior such as dispersion stability and morphology are also highlighted.

Recent advancement in the natural fiber polymer composites: A comprehensive review

This research aims to present a single piezoelectric and substrate for studying vibration characteristics and static structural behaviour when various external loads are applied. Ansys Workbench software was used to analyse vibration characteristics and static structural behaviour when various external loads are applied at the free end of a piezoelectric attached with substrate. In this study, there are three analyses performed, namely, static structural analysis, modal analysis and harmonic response. A maximum amplitude of 6.6mm and 256mm deformation are attained with a 2N load applied to the substrate and piezoelectric. From the result obtained from vibration and static response, 2N mass was impact to the voltage generation of PZT-5A.

Lubricant mechanisms of eco-friendly lubricant blended with mineral oil for steel-steel contact

This study investigates the effect of normal load on the frictional properties of palm kernel activated carbon-epoxy (PKAC-E) composite The PKAC-E composite specimen was fabricated by hot compression molding method The dry sliding test was performed by using a pin-on-disc tribometer at various normal loads, range from 5 – 100N The sliding speed and distance were constant All tests were performed at room temperature It was found that the coefficient of friction decreases with normal load, though at 60N, friction coefficient increases slightly and remains almost invariant at about 004 with normal load The main conclusion of this study is that PKAC-E composite has a potential for tribological material application but only limited at low normal load under unlubricated conditions
