A light-emitting diode (LED) assembly includes a heat dissipation device (30) and at least one LED (10). The heat dissipation device has a connecting surface (33) with circuitry (20) being directly formed thereon. The at least one LED is electrically connected with the circuitry, and is maintained in thermal and mechanical contact with the connecting surface to dissipate heat generated thereby through the heat dissipation device. A method for making the LED assembly includes steps of: (A) providing a heat dissipation device having a surface for the LED to be mounted thereon; (B) insulating the surface; (C) forming circuitry on the insulated surface directly to obtain a connecting surface; (D) attaching the LED to the connecting surface of the heat dissipation device thermally and mechanically, and connecting the LED with the circuitry electrically to form the LED assembly.

A method of protecting an electronics package is discussed along with devices formed by the method. The method involves providing at least one electronic component that requires protecting from tampering and/or reverse engineering. Further, the method includes mixing into a liquid glass material at least one of high durability micro-particles or high-durability nano-particles, to form a coating material. Further still, the method includes depositing the coating material onto the electronic component and curing the coating material deposited.

An exemplary refrigeration system for cooling food or beverages may use a liquid cooling system of a vehicle. The refrigeration system may include a compartment in which the food or beverages may be placed and removed, a chilled liquid coolant system having a connection through which liquid coolant is received from the liquid cooling system of the vehicle, and a heat exchanger operationally coupled with the chilled liquid coolant system and the compartment to transfer heat from the compartment into the liquid coolant. The refrigeration system may also include a second chilled coolant system through which a second coolant flows and a second heat exchanger operationally coupled with the second chilled coolant system and the compartment to transfer heat from the compartment. The chilled liquid coolant system and the second chilled coolant system may operate together as a cascade cooling system.

Refrigeration systems and methods for connection with a vehicle's liquid cooling system

A coating for reducing interaction between a surface and the environment around the surface includes an alkali silicate glass material configured to protect the surface from environmental corrosion due to water or moisture. The alkali silicate glass material is doped with a first element to affect various forms of radiation passing through the coating. The electromagnetic radiation is at least one of ultraviolet, x-ray, atomic (gamma, alpha, beta), and electromagnetic or radio wave radiation. The coating may also be used to protect a solar cell from the environment and UV rays while retransmitting received light as usable light for conversion into electrical energy. The coating may also be used to prevent whisker formation in metal finishes of tin, cadmium, zinc, etc.

The present invention is a thermal spreader for providing a high effective thermal conductivity between a heat source and a heat sink. The thermal spreader may include a mechanically flexible substrate. The mechanically flexible substrate may be at least partially constructed of organic materials. The mechanically flexible substrate may form an internal channel which is configured for containing an electrically-conductive liquid. The thermal spreader may further include a pump. The pump may be configured for being connected to the substrate and for circulating the electrically-conductive liquid within the internal channel. The thermal spreader may further include one or more thermally-conductive, rigid metal inserts. Each insert may be configured for being in thermal contact with the electrically-conductive liquid and the substrate and for promoting heat transfer between the thermal spreader and the electrically-conductive liquid.

The liquid metal coolant extracts heat generated by an electronic component and flows to a heat exchanger where the heat is rejected into ambient air through force convection. A pump is used to enable the liquid metal coolant to circulate in a closed loop system.
