Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving, by a feed point of a dielectric antenna, electromagnetic waves from a dielectric core coupled to the feed point without an electrical return path, where at least a portion of the dielectric antenna comprises a conductive surface, directing, by the feed point, the electromagnetic waves to a proximal portion of the dielectric antenna, and radiating, via an aperture of the dielectric antenna, a wireless signal responsive to the electromagnetic waves being received at the aperture. Method and apparatus for coupling an antenna to a device

A distributed antenna and backhaul system provide network connectivity for a small cell deployment. Rather than building new structures, and installing additional fiber and cable, embodiments described herein disclose using high-bandwidth, millimeter-wave communications and existing power line infrastructure. Above ground backhaul connections via power lines and line-of-sight millimeter-wave band signals as well as underground backhaul connections via buried electrical conduits can provide connectivity to the distributed base stations. An overhead millimeter-wave system can also be used to provide backhaul connectivity. Modules can be placed onto existing infrastructure, such as streetlights and utility poles, and the modules can contain base stations and antennas to transmit the millimeter-waves to and from other modules.

Backhaul link for distributed antenna system

A distributed antenna system is provided that frequency shifts the output of one or more microcells to a 60 GHz or higher frequency range for transmission to a set of distributed antennas. The cellular band outputs of these microcell base station devices are used to modulate a 60 GHz (or higher) carrier wave, yielding a group of subcarriers on the 60 GHz carrier wave. This group will then be transmitted in the air via analog microwave RF unit, after which it can be repeated or radiated to the surrounding area. The repeaters amplify the signal and resend it on the air again toward the next repeater. In places where a microcell is required, the 60 GHz signal is shifted in frequency back to its original frequency (e.g., the 1.9 GHz cellular band) and radiated locally to nearby mobile devices.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a device that facilitates transmitting electromagnetic waves along a surface of a wire that facilitates delivery of electric energy to devices, and sensing a condition that is adverse to the electromagnetic waves propagating along the surface of the wire. If a route has not yet been set in a car navigation apparatus, and when a vehicle approaches a specific crossing or a charging station located ahead of a current-driving road, or when remaining charge of a battery becomes less, the navigation apparatus retrieves and displays information about charging stations of the respective branching directions. When the vehicle approaches a specific crossing, the navigation apparatus guides information for indicating whether or not a charging station is present, a distance, and whether or not the vehicle can reach the charging station with respect to each of directions branched from the specific crossing. Also, when a charging station is located ahead of the road, the navigation apparatus retrieves charging stations of the respective branching destinations at a specific crossing located in front of the road, and judges whether or not the vehicle can be driven up to the respective retrieved charging stations.

Conditional base maintenance has been gaining widespread acceptance, with numerous sensors attached to equipment for constant monitoring of its operational state, the resulting sensor data being compared with those about the equipment in the normal state for a diagnosis to determine whether the equipment is currently operating normally, the result of the diagnosis being used to conduct maintenance. Conditional base maintenance can rapidly detect aging deterioration of the equipment, so that abnormal sates that were not detected before in time base maintenance can now be detected. However, although conventional diagnosis technology can distinguish between the normal state and anomaly, it has been difficult with such technology to identify causes including abnormal phenomena and parts. If it is determined that the target equipment to be diagnosed deviates from the normal state, the degree of deviation of each parameter from the normal state as the reference is calculated as an abnormal contribution ratio. A failure cause is estimated from a similarity ratio between the calculated abnormal contribution ratio and the abnormal contribution ratio of each of the failure causes collected in the past and including failure phenomena and failure parts.

Failure cause diagnosis system and method

A certificate management method is provided whereby a plurality of service providers have different reliable certificate authorities and, when certificates issued from the certificate authorities are implemented into a smart card, merely by revoking the certificate issued from the certificate authority on which the first service provider relies, all other implemented certificates can be revoked, and the certificates can be individually revoked. A system for implementing the method is provided. The certificate authorities n (n≧2) issue a certificate n by using a private key n′ corresponding to certificate n′ generated by using a certificate 1 issued from a certificate authority 1 which has previously been installed in the smart card and a corresponding private key 1 . Thus, the issued certificates have a hierarchical chain relation. When the user wants to revoke all certificates, the certificate 1 issued from the certificate authority 1 is revoked.

Specifically disclosed is a loading guide system which is provided with: loading state detection means (5, 6) which detect the quantity (p) of the cargo loaded on the transportation machine and the loaded position (x); a loading standard information storage means (7) which stores loading standard information relating to the loading state of the transportation machine; a load-up performance information storage means (11) which stores load-up performance information relating to the load-up ability of the load-up machine; a next operation calculation means (10) which calculates the quantity of the cargo to be loaded next and the position to be loaded next relating to the cargo to be loaded up by the next operation of the load-up machine, on the basis of the quantity of the loaded cargo, the loaded position, the loading standard information, and the load-up performance information; and a display device (12) which notifies the operator of the load-up machine about the quantity of the cargo to be loaded next and the position to be loaded next. This enables the load-up machine to efficiently load up the transportation machine with the cargo.
