TL;DR: In this article, a one-legged jigging robot realized stilts-walking with only two actuators, one motor swings the leg cyclically, and the other motor drives the rotor equipped on the top of the body to turn the lifted leg toward the direction in which the body leans.
Abstract: This paper deals with the newly developed robot 'O-jiro (One-legged jigging robot)' which realized stilts-walking. The impact of stepping by two legs disturbs the balance of the body, so this robot has a vertical arc-shaped plate as a leg. The one motor swings the leg cyclically, so the supporting point moves from side to side like a stepping of stilts-walking. As the same time, the other motor drives the rotor equipped the top of the body to turn the lifted leg toward the direction in which the body leans (forward or backward), So the O-jiro can keep stable. Thus he can realize the stilts-walking stably with a simple mechanism and only two actuators. As a result of the experiments, he could keep standing stably, and it is confirmed that the usefulness of this mechanism as a locomotive robot.

TL;DR: In this article, a cold-rolled strip of a stainless steel with a specific composition was formed into a mixed structure by means of dual phase forming heat treatment and further carrying out continuous ageing treatment.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a high strength steel strip excellent in spring characteristic and reduced in the anisotropy of spring characteristic by forming a cold rolled strip of a stainless steel with a specific composition into a mixed structure by means of dual phase forming heat treatment and further carrying out continuous ageing treatment. CONSTITUTION:A cold rolled strip of a stainless steel containing, by weight, 10.0-20.0% Cr, 0.01-0.15% C, and one or more element among Ni, Mn, and Cu as essential components is passed through a continuous heat treatment furnace and subjected to dual phase forming heat treatment consisting of heating up to a temp. in a two-phase region of ferrite and austenite and rapid cooling. The resulting steel strip having a mixed structure substantially of ferrite and martensite is further passed through the continuous heat treatment furnace to undergo continuous ageing treatment for <=10min, or, the above steel strip with the above mixed structure is subjected to temper rolling at <=10% draft and then to continuous ageing treatment.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors define a reactive orbital that is localized around the reaction site to evaluate easily the reactivities of an atom or a functional unit in sizable molecules, and then, by projecting it onto the occupied or unoccupied MOs of a molecule, they can generate the reactive orbit that has the maximum amplitude on that reference orbital function.
Abstract: With a view to evaluating easily the reactivities of an atom or a functional unit in sizable molecules, we define a reactive orbital that is localized around the reaction site. We represent first the characteristics of a reaction by choosing a certain reference orbital function. Then, by projecting it onto the occupied or unoccupied MOs of a molecule, we can generate the reactive orbital that has the maximum amplitude on that reference orbital function. The occupied or unoccupied orbital obtained in this manner for a sizable molecular system interprets the local electron-donating or -accepting ability of an atom or a functional unit. A combination of local electrophilicity and nucleophilicity of the reagent and reactant molecules gives rise to a new reactivity scale. Applications to two types of reaction are shown to give excellent agreement with experimental results. The electronic effect of ligands on the catalytic activities of Pd complexes in the model Wacker process and the activation of a carbene upon co-ordination to transition metals are also discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements from the air-cleaved surfaces of the single crystals were carried out, and the results of the surface composition analyses were found that Pb occupied a part of the Bi site in the BPSCO single crystal and Ca occupied a portion of the Sr sites in the BSCCO single crystal.
Abstract: The Bi-system single crystals with c-axis unit cell length of ~24 A, i.e., Bi-Sr-Cu-O (BSCO), Bi-Pb-Sr-Cu-O (BPSCO), Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O (BSCCO), and Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O (BPSCCO) single crystals, were prepared using the starting materials of various compositions by the self-flux method. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements from the air-cleaved surfaces of the single crystals were carried out. From the results of the surface composition analyses, we found that Pb occupied a part of the Bi site in the BPSCO single crystal and Ca occupied a part of the Sr site in the BSCCO single crystal. The chemical bond natures of Sr, Cu and O in the BSCO crystal seem to be changed by doping with Pb and/or Ca.
