Microstructure evolution in HAZ and suppression of Type IV fracture in advanced ferritic power plant steels

Plasma proteins at high concentrations were found to be adsorbed on a synthetic material surface as a multimolecular layer. However, at low concentrations, albumin, globulin, and fibrinogen molecules were adsorbed on the material surface as a Langmuir-type monomolecular layer. The adsorption rate constants of plasma proteins were evaluated for segmented polyether urethane nylon, poly(vinyl alcohol), materials containing relatively hydrophobic groups, and glass. The initial stage at which plasma starts to come into contact with these materials was taken into consideration. The good antithrombogenecity of segmented polyether urethane nylon was concluded to be due to its selective adsorption of albumin.

Recrystallization of the Austenite Transformed Reversely and Structure of Martensite in 18Ni Maraging Steel

Recrystallization behaviors oj reversed austenite Jrom either martensitic (nondeformed) or deformed martensitic (50% rolled) JB% Ni maraging steels, and martensite structures Jormed Jrom either wzrecrystallized or recrystallized austenite were studied by the microstructural observations. T he main results obtained are as Joillows . (I) R ight after the completion oj a' .... r reverse transformation, tlze reversed austenite grain boundaries exactly correspond to the prior austenite grain boundaries oj the original sj)ecimen before heating in both lzondeJormed and deformed specimens, and thus 120 change in the austenite grain size is observed. The reversed austenite is recrystallized to a finer grain size by Jurther heating. (2) The recrystallization rif tlze reversed allstenite in defonned specimen starts and finishes at lower temperatures in comparison with lzondeJormed sj)ecimen. In the case oj nOlldeformed specimens, the recrystallized grains Jorm j)referentially along the reversed austenite grain boundaries. On the other hand, in the deformed sj)ecimens. the recrystallized grains Jorm finely and evenly in the reversed austenite grain. Owing to such a difference in preferential nucleation site rif recrystallized grain, a deformation oj martensite prior to heating enhances tlte refinement rif reversed austenite grain. (3) In the case that martensites are Jonned Jrom the wzrecrystallized austenite right after the completion oj a' .... r transfomzation by heating and quenching, martensite structure such as packets and blocks after the a' .... r a' transJormation almost exactly corresponds to that oj the original specimen before the heating. Such a microstructural reproducibility was also observed in the deformed sj)ecimens . H owever, the width oj martensite laths Jonned Jrom the unrecrystallized austenite is smaller in comparison with thatJomzedJrom tlze recrystallized austenite.
