Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic skin test reactions with varicella virus antigen and clinical application of the test.
Hitoshi Kamiya,Toshiaki Ihara,Akihiko Hattori,Toshiaki Iwasa,Minoru Sakurai,Tadasu Izawa,Akira Yamada,Michiaki Takahashi +7 more
TL;DR: The skin test was applied clinically in an institution for mentally retarded children immediately after varicella infection occurred in a patient, and seems clinically useful in the determination of susceptibility of individuals to clinicalvaricella.
Journal Article
Application of a live varicella vaccine in children with acute leukemia or other malignant diseases.
Tadasu Izawa,Toshiaki Ihara,Akihiko Hattori,Toshiaki Iwasa,Hitoshi Kamiya,Minoru Sakurai,Michiaki Takahashi +6 more
TL;DR: A live varicella vaccine was used in 11 susceptible children in remission from acute leukemia, ten of whom had been in remission for six months or less, and in 6 children with neuroblastoma and retinoblastoma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of tumor necrosis factor alpha on replication of varicella-zoster virus.
Masahiro Ito,Takashi Nakano,Toshiya Kamiya,Kenji Kitamura,Toshiaki Ihara,Hitoshi Kamiya,Minoru Sakurai +6 more
TL;DR: Replication of varicella-zoster virus (VZV) and expression of VZV nuclear antigen are inhibited in human embryonic lung fibroblast (HEL) cells pretreated with recombinant tumor necrosis factor (TNF) alpha for 24 h.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immunization of the elderly and patients with collagen vascular diseases with live varicella vaccine and use of varicella skin antigen.
Michiaki Takahashi,Toshihiko Iketani,Kenshiro Sasada,Jiro Hara,Hitoshi Kamiya,Asano Yoshizo,Baba Koichi,Shiraki Kimiyasu +7 more
TL;DR: An improved varicella-zoster virus (VZV) skin test antigen was used to assess cell-mediated immunity to VZV and resulted in 8 of 12 elderly subjects (greater than 60 years old) and 4 of 6 patients with collagen vascular diseases, who were V zoster-skin test negative but purified protein derivative tuberculin test-positive, became V ZV skin test- positive.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Retrospective Evaluation of Hospitalizations for Acute Gastroenteritis at 2 Sentinel Hospitals in Central Japan to Estimate the Health Burden of Rotavirus
Hajime Kamiya,Takashi Nakano,Inoue M,Hitoshi Kamiya,Thura T Abd,Manish M. Patel,Walter A. Orenstein,Umesh D. Parashar +7 more
TL;DR: The burden of severe rotavirus disease among Japanese children aged <5 years is substantial and warrants consideration of vaccination as a prevention strategy.
