The invention relates to the use of certain acid donors as stabilizers in pharmaceutical compositions, and to the pharmaceutical compositions resulting therefrom.

Stabilized pharmaceutical compositions

A process is described for the preparation of oral retard tablets or dragees containing as active ingredient a compound of the general formula

 R stands for hydrogen or -CH 2 -COOH, R' stands for hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, R 2 stands for C 1-4 alkyl, C 2-5 alkoxycarbonyl or carbamoyl and the dotted line stands for an optionally present double bond (or an acid addition salt or quaternary ammonium salt thereof and optionally another known active ingredient) which comprises admixing 50-70 % by weight of the active ingredient by methods known per se with 4 to 8 % by weight of hydrophobic substance with high specific surface, 7 to 12 % by weight of lipoid, 8 to 12 % by weight of polyoxycom- pound, 4 to 9 % by weight binding agent, 0.5 to 4 % by weight of acidic stabilizer and optionally with filling agents, diluents, and lubricants and other excipients, and formulating the obtained mixture to tablets or dragees by methods known per se.

Retard oral pharmaceutical compositions

Pharmaceutical composition stabilised by a hydrochloric acid donor, and its preparation. The pharmaceutical composition comprises an active component capable of undergoing a degradation, for example an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, and, as stabiliser, an addition salt of hydrochloric acid. The active ingredient is stabilised against a rise in temperature and/or effects of moisture.

Pyrido (1,2-alpha) pyrimidine compsns. suitable for oral administration contain cpds. of formula (I): (where X = carboxy (deriv), their (quaternary) salts or their mixts; pharmaceutical supports and adjuvants; opt. other active substances and a stabilising acid which dissolves in the moisture adsorbed at the surface of the solids and is formulated at the same time as the compsn. by known methods to give a prepn. suitable for oral administration pref. as tablets, coated tablets, multilayer tablets or capsules. Used as an analgesic. Small quantities of moisture produce a reversible, tautomeric transformation converting the white crystalline (I) to a yellow tautomer which although it does not influence the activity worries patients and is preferably avoided. The present composition is more stable to this change.
