Prediction of stress relaxation from creep data in terms of average creep rate

Loosening of threaded fasteners is a key failure mode, which is mainly caused by the slippage and friction behaviors on the thread and bearing surfaces, and will affect the integrity and reliability of products. Numerous scholars have conducted research on the loosening of threaded fasteners; however, comprehensive reviews on the loosening of threaded fasteners have been scarce. In this review article, we define loosening as a loss of preload and divide it into non-rotational and rotational loosening. The causes and mechanisms of non-rotational and rotational loosening are summarised. Some essential topics regarding loosening under transverse vibration have also attracted significant attention and have been investigated widely, including the loosening curve, critical condition of loosening, and influencing factors of loosening. The research carried out on these three topics is also summarised in this review. It is believed that our work will not only help new researchers quickly understand the state-of-the-art research on loosening, but also increase the knowledge of engineers on this critical subject. In the future, it is important to conduct more quantitative research on local slippage accumulation, and the relationship between local slippage accumulation and rotational loosening, which will have the potential to comprehensively unravel the loosening mechanism, and effectively guide the anti-loosening design of threaded fasteners.

Compressive ratcheting effect of expanded PTFE considering multiple load paths

With the development of ultrasupercritical power generation technology, creep strength of high-temperature materials should be considered for safety evaluation and engineering design. However, long-time creep testing should be conducted by traditional creep assessment methods. This paper established a high-efficient prediction method for steady creep strain rate and creep strength based on short-term relaxation tests. Equivalent stress relaxation time and equivalent stress relaxation rate were defined according to stress relaxation characteristics and the Maxwell equation. An accelerated creep prediction approach from short-term stress relaxation tests was proposed by defining the equivalent relaxation rate as the creep rate during the steady stage. Stress relaxation and creep tests using high-temperature material 1Cr10NiMoW2VNbN steel were performed to validate the proposed model. Results showed that the experimental data are in good agreement with those predicted solutions. This indicates that short-term stress relaxation tests can be used to predict long-term creep behavior conveniently and reliably, and the proposed method is suitable for creep strength design and creep life prediction of 9–12%Cr steel used in ultrasupercritical unit at 600 °C.

A Unified Continuum Damage Mechanics Model for Predicting the Stress Relaxation Behavior of High-Temperature Bolting

The invention discloses a designing and prediction method for converting high-temperature stress relaxation data into creep data. The method mainly comprises the following steps: establishing a stress relaxation two-stage superposition model; creating the concepts of equivalent full relaxation time and equivalent relaxation creep rates, carrying out simulation of an equivalent relaxation creep rate in two integrated relaxation stages to obtain a steady-state creep rate under constant stress and establishing a stress relaxation-creep conversion model; acquiring stress relaxation performance data of a high-temperature component material; subjecting the data and the stress relaxation two-stage superposition model to fitting so as to obtain a corresponding material constant; and carrying out calculating according to a numerical analysis program, solving the stress relaxation-creep conversion model and eventually converting stress relaxation data into creep data so as to obtain a steady-state creep rate curve and a steady-state creep curve. According to the invention, accurate association between stress relaxation data and creep data behaviors is established; a prediction method for converting single relaxation data into creep data under any stress is constructed; so a novel approach is provided for designing of creep strength of a high-temperature member and for evaluation of the service life of the high-temperature member.
