An adaptive frequency domain equalizer and an adaptive frequency domain equalization method are provided to minimize an EMSE(Excess Mean Square Error) by adopting a high-stable root square algorithm. A first DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform)(204) converts a received signal into a frequency domain. A pseudo-time space code matrix generator(208) generates a pseudo-time space code matrix from two successively received signal blocks from the first DFT. An input block matrix generator(210) generates an equalizer input block matrix based on the pseudo-time space code matrix. A channel equalizer(212) performs a channel equalization on the equalizer input block matrix according to an equalizer coefficient. An IDFT(Inverse Discrete Fourier Transform)(214) converts the channel-equalized signal into a time domain. A determining unit(216) generates a determination signal by estimating a transmission signal from the time domain signal. A second DFT(218) converts the determination signal into the frequency domain. An error calculator calculates an error from the determination signal. A compensator(222) compensates for the equalizer coefficient by using the error and the equalizer input block matrix.
