TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the longitudinal association between participation in individual or combinations of physical, social, and religious activity and risk of depression in the elderly and found that participants who participated in social and religious activities were more likely to experience depression than those who did not.

TL;DR: It is proposed that the risk of subsequent depression in elderly is associated with frequency of contact with non-cohabitating adult children, while the group lacking both types of contact demonstrated the highest risk of depression.
