O presente estudo 3 tem como tema a produção e reprodução da vida de trabalhadores migrantes temporários nordestinos da construção civil que trabalham no Campus central da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina — UFSC, em Florianópolis/SC. Seu objetivo principal é analisar as condições de vida, trabalho, moradia e escolarização dos trabalhadores diante do crescimento das migrações na atualidade. Na pesquisa empírica foi realizado um trabalho de campo nos canteiros de obras no campus, com o propósito de identificar as empresas que prestam serviço na universidade e também quais as empresas que empregavam maior número de trabalhadores migrantes temporários nordestinos. Na coleta de dados foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com os trabalhadores migrantes e com as empresas nos canteiros de obras da universidade. A pesquisa de campo envolveu ainda conversas informais com os trabalhadores migrantes, com as empresas e registros fotográficos.

Coatings tailored to corrosion protection of metallic substrates are of the utmost relevance to ensure reliability and long-term performance of coated parts as well as the product value of the coated materials. Presently, there is a strong emphasis on the development of advanced functional and smart coatings for corrosion protection in different technological applications. On the one hand, there is a need for more advanced coatings for conventional applications and, on the other hand, there is a need to answer the requirements of several new Hi-Tech applications. Thus, this review highlights the most recent trends in the field of functional coatings for corrosion protection of metallic materials in a wide range of technical applications. Emphasis is given to self-healing coatings and smart coatings combining multiple functionalities for increased corrosion protection. Recent developments on the introduction of functionalities based on encapsulation of corrosion inhibitors, anti-fouling agents and superhydrophobic additives or modification of organic and hybrid matrices via chemical manipulation are reviewed. Special attention is dedicated to functional coatings for corrosion protection of bioresorbable metallic implants that have an important impact in biomedical applications.

Vegetable oil based eco-friendly coating materials: A review article

This paper is a review of the most recent and relevant achievements (from 2001 to 2013) on the development of organic–inorganic hybrid (OIH) coatings produced by sol–gel-derived methods to improve resistance to oxidation/corrosion of different metallic substrates and their alloys. This review is focused on the research of OIH coatings based on siloxanes using the sol–gel process conducted at an academic level and aims to summarize the materials developed and identify perspectives for further research. The fundamentals of sol–gel are described, including OIH classification, the interaction with the substrate, their advantages, and limitations. The main precursors used in the synthesis of OIH sol–gel coatings for corrosion protection are also discussed, according to the metallic substrate used. Finally, a multilayer system to improve the resistance to corrosion is proposed, based on OIH coatings produced by the sol–gel process, and the future research challenges are debated.

Silicon carbide films between 2.3 and 3.0 μm were deposited on AISI 304 stainless steel (SS), carbon steel (CS) and crystalline silicon from a SiC target in a magnetron sputtering system. Good mechanical properties were obtained for the films by carefully controlling the deposition parameters. Results of scratch tests revealed that adhesion of the films is a function of deposition parameters and substrate type. Additionally, an influence of substrate preparation prior to deposition was also observed. Critical loads of 20 N, 8 N and 5 N were obtained in case of Si, SS and CS substrates, respectively. Vickers micro-hardness values were between 10 and 30 GPa, films on SS being harder than films on CS. The behavior of the films as corrosion protection barriers in aggressive environments was evaluated by immersion tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. Films on SS exhibited a better corrosion resistance than those on CS. Their adhesion to the SS was outstanding, even after a long time of immersion in a HCl 0.8 M solution, showing that they are efficient protection barriers. The corrosion process of the substrates starts at micro-pores present in the films so that corrosion pits all over the surface of the samples can be observed.
