For wireless sensor network (WSN) many routing protocols are proposed to reduce energy consumption Clustering methodology has been used in WSN for increasing the longevity of the network Independent clusters are formed by grouping sensor nodes and selecting one node as cluster head (CH) to represent the cluster Role of CH plays vital part for clustering methodology as CH is more important as compared to member nodes In the literature fuzzy approaches with clustering methodology have been examined for well load balanced clusters Our proposed approach in this paper is based on fuzzy logic which considers distance to Base Station (BS), remaining energy of nodes, node density, intra-cluster communication distance, remaining energy of CH and density of CH as input fuzzy sets In this fuzzy approach, the whole process of clustering is divided into two phases In the first phase, CH selection is completed by considering the parameters - distance to the base station (BS), remaining energy of node and node density of each node In the second phase, cluster formation has been taken place by joining of non CH nodes with a particular CH taking parameters distance to CH, the remaining energy of CH and density of the CH The proposed approach improves the load balancing and node lifetime as compared with the other simulated approaches
