PURPOSE:A glaze, obtained by incorporating feldspar with dolomite, K2CO3 and zircon, and having improved abrasion resistance and scuff resistance. CONSTITUTION:About 35wt% feldspar is incorporated with about 30wt% dolomite, about 10wt% K2CO3, about 25wt% zircon, an adequate amount of quartz powder and an adequate amount of ''gaerome'' clay (a kind of transported clay) to give a glaze. In the glaze composition, a larger amount of MgO increases the abrasion resistance compared with CaO, and the higher abrasion resistance is obtained with a smaller amount of Na2O. The amount of AlO3 less than that described above makes the glaze slightly soluble. If the amount is larger than that described above, the deposited crystal deposited on the glaze surface is reduced to deteriorate the abrasion resistance. A suitable body material to be coated with the glaze is a porcelain calcining under the conditions of SK8-9, etc., and the resultant glaze is applied to the surface of the body material and calcined under the conditions of SK8-9 to give a matte glaze surface having fine crystals closely floated thereon.
