Social Network of Small Creative Firms and Its Effects on Innovation in Developing Countries.

Due to resource constraints, short product-life cycle, and increased competition, handicraft micro-enterprises face many difficulties. By investigating the individual effects of customer and supplier cooperations on innovation (and thereby, firm performance), this study reveals how micro-enterprises can overcome such limitations and maintain competitiveness in the market. We find that cooperation with both partners significantly and positively affects product innovation, but only cooperation with suppliers has significant and positive effect on process innovation. In turn, product and process innovations significantly and positively affect a firm’s financial and non-financial performances. Our findings provide useful theoretical and practical implications.

How does customer and supplier cooperation in micro-enterprises affect innovation? Evidence from Pakistani handicraft micro-enterprises

This study aims to examine issues affecting the growth and survival of traditional handicraft enterprising community in Pakistan, and analyzes their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, as well as develops strategic solutions to overcome the problems identified for their revival.,This exploratory study is based on a descriptive approach because it attempts to investigate the critical issues faced by traditional handicraft enterprising community. To operationalize the theoretical approach, this paper used a SWOT analysis of craft enterprising community. After thoroughly reviewing relevant literature, this study put forward strategic solutions for the revival of the traditional enterprising community. Moreover, secondary data on employment and gender wage gap were used to provide empirical evidence of the issues identified and emphasize the importance of strategic solutions.,This study found that traditional handicraft producers are facing many problems that hinder their survival and growth. This paper, therefore, makes some essential strategic recommendations on how to overcome these issues. The current research argues that Pakistan’s handicraft industry must be revived; else, centuries-old traditional culture and patrimonial knowledge will vanish. Moreover, there is a need to attract foreign investment to overcome resource limitations and improve the competitive capability of the enterprising community. Notably, government intervention is necessary for the revival of the traditional handicraft industry.,This study provides in-depth knowledge of issues faced by the Pakistani traditional handicraft enterprising community and suggests possible strategic solutions for the problems identified. Unlike previous studies, this research also discusses the essential characteristics of traditional handicrafts that differentiate them from identical mechanized products.

Revival of the traditional handicraft enterprising community in Pakistan

The aim of this article is to analyze learning for the internationalization of craft companies. The study is mixed and is based on a questionnaire, field visits and retrieval of documentary evidence about these companies. The main result is that, self-financing, the application of resources in obtaining raw materials, as well as the adaptation of machinery and equipment to traditional modes of production, have facilitated the internationalization of companies. It is concluded that the learning system promotes self-financing, constant adaptation to change and greater use of the international markets.

Apprenticeship system for the internationalization: Jalisco handicraft production companies

This paper discusses about the initiatives taken by the local government and institutions for innovating entrepreneurship in Dimapur district, Nagaland. A conceptual framework is constructed based on the previous empirical research findings and considered several key factors to analyze, by questioning the effectiveness of regional institutions and government’s initiatives towards promoting entrepreneurship. The objective of the study is to confer the initiatives taken by various organizations towards promoting entrepreneurship and to understand the impact of training and skill development programmes among the entrepreneurs. The study is also designed to identify the problems faced by the entrepreneurs. Marketing and financial assistances from the local government and banks are also discussed later in the paper. The primary data were collected through self-administered mail survey from the bamboo and wood handicraft entrepreneurs based on five-point Likert scale questions. The result indicated that there is a significant difference on the impact of training programmes on entrepreneurs. Moreover, access to finance, market information and technological setback was the major problem faced by entrepreneurs, irrespective of the business experience. The study also recommends the handicraft entrepreneurs to open a bank account in the business name to avail overdraft facilities.
