Growth and Cucumber Yield of Three Different Varieties on Selected Hydroponic Medium ABSTRACT . The subjective of this study were to investigate several varieties and medium on the growth and the yield of cucumber. The research was conducted at the screen house Agriculture Faculty, Syiah Kuala University Darussalam – Banda Aceh from August to December 2008. Randomized completely block design with two factors was used on this experiment using three replications. The first factor was medium for hydroponic (i.e. sand, rice chaff charcoal, and sawdust), and the second factor was cucumber variety (i.e. Dinasty, Baby, and Venus). Each of unit experiment used 2 plants, and meaning that we used 54 plants for this experiment. The result showed that he medium significantly influenced the cucumber weight per plant, influenced the stem diameter on 45 days after planting (DAP), but not for other parameters (i.e. the plant height on 15, 30 and 45 DAP ; the stem diameters on 15 and 30 DAP ; the fruit length ; the fruit diameter and the amount of fruit per plant). The variety significantly influenced the fruit length and the cucumber weight per plant, however the variety not significantly influenced other parameters (i.e. the plant height on 15, 30, and 45 DAP; the stem diameter on 15, 30, and 45 DAP; the amount of fruit per plant; and the fruit diameter). We found that the interaction between the medium and the variety occurred on the cucumber weight per plant.

Pertumbuhan dan Hasil Tiga Varietas Mentimun (Cucumis sativus L.) Pada Medium Hidroponik Tertentu

Tujuan penelitian mempelajari viabilitas dan vigor benih tanaman jarak di persemaian dan  menetapkan konsentrasi optimum H 2 SO 4 pada tiap lamanya waktu penyimpanan yang memberikan viabilitas benih jarak yang tertinggi di persemaian. Percobaan dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Benih dan Kebun Produksi Tanaman Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Winaya Mukti Tanjungsari, menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) pola faktorial, Faktor I  waktu  dan konsentrasi larutan asam sulfat: (0,25%, 0,50%, 0,75%  dan  1,0%).   Hasil percobaan menunjukkan terjadi interaksi antara waktu penyimpanan benih dan konsentrasi larutan asam sulfat terhadap daya kecambah benih, kecepatan tumbuh benih, dan vigor benih.  Penyimpanan dan konsentrasi larutan asam sulfat 0,75% memberikan pengaruh terbaik dibanding perlakuan lainnya. Pada waktu tanpa penyimpanan yang diikuti dengan konsentrasi larutan asam sulfat optimum sebanyak 0,783% memberikan persentase daya kecambah benih sebesar 93,521%. PENGARUH WAKTU PENYIMPANAN BENIH DAN KONSENTRASI LARUTAN ASAM SULFAT TERHADAP VIABILITAS DAN VIGOR BENIH JARAK (Jatropha curcas Linn) DI PERSEMAIAN

Kepuh (Sterculia foetida Linn.) is a potential tree species to be developed as
renewable energy resource because of fast growing species that covers large area,
its seed contains quite high oil that is considered to be appropriate for biodiesel raw
material. The objective of this research is to find out the potential seed production,
oil content in seed from several population, seed handling and growing seedling
character.
Seed collection and field survey on potential seed production was conducted
in six areas including Kupang, Mataram, Bali, Tuban, Cirebon, dan Bogor. The
prediction of potential seed production was approached by seed production in
individual tree. Fruit and seed morphology from different areas was correlated with
rainfall and altitude. Biochemical test and oil contain in seed was conducted in every
location of seed collection. The seed handling including determination of seed
maturation, seed drying, seed storage and seed germination. Criterion of seedling
quality for planting was approached through seedling growth character.
The results indicated that fruit and seed morphology was significantly
different among seed sources but was not significantly correlated with rainfall and
altitude of the seed collection areas. The seed sources in dry areas (Bali and Nusa
Tenggara) tend to have higher oil content. Model of potential seed production was
Pb = -8733,311 + 195,602Tp + 13,339Dp + 673,658Lb, RÂ² = 0,563, remarks : Pb =
seed production (grains), Tp = tree height (m), Dp = stem diameter (cm), and Lb =
tree crown size (m). The physiological maturity of seed was determined by fruit
color from green reddish to red and the seedcoat color from dark brown to black.
Kepuh seed was cathegorized as intermediate seed. The seed can be dried until 10 %
in moisture content and can be stored for 4 months in dry cold storage (DCS) room,
Air Conditioned room and ambient room. Pre-treatment before seed sowing can be
conducted by soaking the seed in concentrated H2SO4 for 10 minutes. The root
length and seedling sturdiness quotient as much as 7 (seven) was an important factor
of kepuh seedling for planting in the field. The best seedling criterion for planting
was the initial height more than 40 cm and diameter more than 4 mm.

ANALISIS POTENSI PRODUKSI BENIH, PENANGANAN DANKARAKTERISTIK PERTUMBUHAN BIBIT KEPUH (Sterculiafoetida Linn.) SEBAGAI SALAH SATU SUMBER BIOFUEL

Kepuh ( Stercukia foetida Linn) is a species that can serve as the greening plants for soil conservation and hydrology. This study aims to determine the effect of media treatment and sulfuric acid concentration on germination of seed kepuh ( Sterculia foetida Linn). The study was conducted from March to April 2017. Experiments were performed in a randomized block design with 2 factorials, 3 repetitions and 24 treatment combinations. The results showed, the combination of the media treatment and the concentration of sulfuric acid on the percentage of germination, the rate of germination, and the kepuh seed vigor index was in the A4B3 treatment. Where A4B3 treatment using cocopeat medium with seeds first soaked in 15% sulfuric acid solution for 15 minutes gives the best results.
