Generational differences in the workplace

Responsible management education is a crucial step in shaping our common future. This article reviews how the Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) offers a platform for institutional commitment and leadership engagement toward business ethics and poverty alleviation. Specifically, this work critically analyzes the challenges and opportunities in adopting the educational principles for practical outcomes in the context of other trends in socially responsible global engagement. Through a review of the institutional trends in relation to PRME, the author offers practical opportunities for curricula development, academic engagement and ethical education for the 21st century.

Globally Responsible Management Education: From Principled Challenges to Practical Opportunities

In the present generational context, talent management approaches and practices have evolved from the stage of “war for talent”, defined by competitiveness and elitism, to a more collaborative and inclusive “post-war stage”. Innovative solutions are increasingly important. In this framework, the main aim of the paper is to confirm that reverse mentoring, a talent management practice which appeared as a response to the necessity to bridge the present generational gap, can be considered a valuable approach in hospitality. Two case studies on the successful implementation of reverse mentoring in Swiss hospitality are presented: the Shadow Comex (Accor) and the ExCom-Y (Movenpick). Results of a focus-group discussion on the topic of identifying the attitudes and opinions of Romanian employees regarding the implementation of reverse mentoring in hotels are further analyzed. Results support the idea that reverse mentoring has developed and offers great potential for innovation. The present study offers interesting and useful ideas to companies in hospitality on how to implement reverse mentoring. Results from the group discussion demonstrate that Romanian employees have high expectations and innovative approaches regarding the implementation of reverse mentoring, similar to the employees from Switzerland, but they lack trust in their employers regarding the real possibility to implement it.

The Impact of Social Media among Undergraduate Students: Attitude

In 1954, the British philosopher Richard Braithwaite gave his inaugural lecture, Theory of Games as a Tool for the Moral Philosopher. Braithwaite predicted game theory would fundamentally change moral philosophy. However, in hindsight, John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern's publication of Theory of Games and Economic Behaviour was the moment modern game theory entered the discipline of ethics. The purpose of this chapter is to analyze the relationship between game theory and business ethics. In other words, this chapter explains how game theory plays a role in business ethics and affects business ethics for emerging economies and covers in detail: 1) the history of game theory; 2) types of/definition(s) of games; 3) business ethics; 4) business; and 5) ethics. The chapter concludes with the role that game theory and business ethics play in emerging economies.

Ethics is the science of morals dealing with human morality revealed in the human character and conduct. In general, ethics shows a corporation how to behave properly in all their businesses and operations. In business, ethical behavior means feeling responsible, being honest and confident towards your clients, employees, and stakeholders. On the other hand, when a company does not respect ethical criteria and fails to improve them, this will disrupt its integrity and unity and lead to internal or external conflicts. The rules of behavior are set by the government and society in the public area whereas the rules of behavior are set by employers in the workplace. The corporate world has always had some rules, norms, and standards in doing business. In this chapter, the authors show the impact of ethics in the field of management.

Bu calismanin amaci orgut kavraminin modern toplumdaki olusumunu ve yerini Kafka’nin Donusum romani uzerinden ortaya cikarmak, bu orgutsel duzen icinde bireylerin giderek yabancilasarak yasamlarina devam ettigi tezini irdelemektir. Donusum sanayilesme sureci ile birlikte giderek yaptigi ise ve kendine yabancilasan bireyi konu almaktadir. Romanin bu anlamda bir analizi yapilarak modern organizasyonlarda yabancilasan birey ele alinacaktir. Oncelikle orgut ve modern orgut kavramlari tanimlanarak, ardindan yabancilasma kavramina vurgu yapilmistir. Modern toplumda bireyin orgut icindeki yabancilasmasinin konu edildigi Kafka’nin Donusum romani da bu anlamda analiz edilmistir. Calismanin sonuc kisminda ise, modern orgutlerde yabancilasma kavramiyla ilgili genel bir degerlendirmeye yer verilmektedir
