An appliance is provided including a noise reduction device to reduce noise generated within a main body of the appliance. The noise reduction device may include a sound absorbing plate having a plurality of sound absorbing holes and a resonance member, one side of which is open and having a hollow portion, so that noise generated by a drive of the appliance passes through the noise reduction device, in order to efficiently reduce noise in the appliance and achieve an increase of internal capacity, a decrease in weight, and a reduction in manufacturing costs for the appliance.

Expandable shelters having a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system arranged to receive outside air away from a mechanical compartment are disclosed. The expandable shelters may comprise an air inlet vent disposed in a front of the expandable shelter interconnected to an in-floor air duct arranged to draw outside air below an interior floor and exchange heat with the coolest area of the expandable shelter. By virtue of having an air inlet vent receive outside air from a location substantially away from the mechanical compartment and exchange heat with the coolest area of the expandable shelter, an environmental control unit (ECU), housed in the mechanical compartment, receives relatively cool outside air, keeping air temperatures inside the mechanical compartment below the upper operating limit of the ECU.

Expandable shelter HVAC systems

A noise attenuation system is disclosed for use in a structure having a recessed fixture mounted therein or other unit which creates a hole in the structure in which it is secured, such as a ceiling. The noise attenuation system is constructed to permit the absorption of noise emitted into the structure from the mechanism. The noise attenuation includes a noise absorbing muffler positioned within the structure in an area substantially surrounding the mechanism. The noise absorbing layer includes an outer barrier layer that limits the passage of sound waves emitted from the mechanism therethrough. The noise absorbing muffler further includes a noise absorbing layer positioned adjacent the outer barrier layer. The noise absorbing layer absorbs a predetermined amount of sounds waves emitted from the recessed fixture. Additionally, an optional noise absorbing layer, or equivalent decoupling material can be included to decouple the barrier from the structure for low frequency noises.

Perforation acoustic muffler assembly and method of reducing noise transmission through objects

A ventilation device comprises a body (11) having first and second ports (14, 15) and a ventilation passage (13) that extends through the body between the ports to allow airflow through the body. The ventilation device also comprises a noise attenuation device (21) arranged to attenuate noise transmission through the passage in at least one direction from the first to the second port. The noise attenuation device comprises at least one array (22, 23) of noise attenuation tubes disposed in the ventilation body. In one form, the noise attenuation device (21) include two arrays of attenuator tubes disposed on respective opposite sides of the passage (13). The tubes each have a mouth (27) that opens to the passage and a central axis that extends from the mouth in the direction of elongation of that tube. At least some of the tubes in the first array (20) oppose at least some of the tubes in the second array (23) with the central axes of the opposing tubes at the region of their mouths (27) being mutually inclined. In addition, at least one of the arrays include an acoustic transmissive partition (30) associated with at least some of the attenuator tubes. The partition (30) separates at least a portion of the cavities (28) of those tubes (27) from the ventilation passage (13). A framing system (40) is also disclosed to enable a bank of ventilation devices (41, 101) to be interconnected and coupled within a frame (60), particularly a glazing frame.

A device for reducing sound from an air treatment unit includes, in one embodiment, an air treatment system, including a wall mount HVAC unit with a supply air opening and a return air opening. A supply air sound reducer is provided in communication with the supply air. The supply air sound reducer includes a housing defining a supply interior provided with sound reducing material. The sound reducing material is overlaid with a layer of perforated material. A return air sound reducer is provided in communication with the return air opening. The return air sound reducer includes a housing defining an interior return volume provided with sound reducing material applied to one or more inside surfaces of the interior return volume and a layer of perforated material disposed over the sound reducing material. Mid-structure including sound reducing material is disposed in each of the supply and return air assemblies.

Air treatment and sound reduction system

A device for reducing sound from an air treatment unit includes, in one embodiment, a wall curb. The air treatment system includes a supply opening and a return opening. The wall curb includes a frame portion defining an interior chamber. A partition divides the interior chamber into a supply plenum in a first portion of the interior chamber and a return plenum in a second portion of the interior chamber. A curb supply opening is formed through the perimeter frame in communication with the supply plenum. A curb return opening is formed through the perimeter frame in communication with the return plenum. The curb return opening is positioned such that airflow through the return plenum is non-linear and a sound absorbing material may be positioned on at least some inside surfaces of the return plenum.
