Journal ArticleDOI
The ultrastructure of erythroblastic islands and reticular cells in mouse bone marrow.
TL;DR: An ultrastructural study of normal mouse erythroblastic islands and reticular cells has been made, finding fixation in glutaraldehyde, then postosmication followed by double staining in uranyl acetate and lead monoxide has been found to greatly facilitate the classification of developing ERYthroblasts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Localization of collagenase in the growth plate of rachitic rats
David D Dean,Ofelia E. Muniz,Irwin Berman,Julio C. Pita,Manuel Carreno,J. F. Woessner,David S. Howell +6 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that extracellular collagenase accounts for the loss of cartilage matrix in the hypertrophic zone, and that this process may be distinct from that of capillary invasion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relationship of extracellular matrix vesicles to calcification in normal and healing rachitic epiphyseal cartilage.
TL;DR: Nucleation sites for mineralization in rat distal femoral epiphyseal cartilage were studied with the electron microscope to study the role of phosphate and vitamin D in cartilage mineralization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morphometric mapping of regional myocyte diameters after healing of myocardial infarction in cats.
Marilyn M. Cox,Marilyn M. Cox,Irwin Berman,Irwin Berman,Robert J. Myerburg,Robert J. Myerburg,Marcel J.D. Smets,Marcel J.D. Smets,Patricia L. Kozlovskis,Patricia L. Kozlovskis +9 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that cells close to a healed myocardial infarction hypertrophy because they are contracting against a non-compliant scar.
Journal ArticleDOI
Annulate lamellae in an undifferentiated mouse marrow cell
Irwin Berman,Catherine C. Stice +1 more
TL;DR: Annulate lamellae have been observed in undifferentiated cells in the marrow of mice treated with urethan, raising the possibility that this cytoplasmic organelle is confined to the most primitive marrow cell and may be an identifying feature of 'stem cells'.
