A multi-stage method and apparatus for cooling the inlet air of internal combustion engine and gas turbine prime movers associated with various load applications comprising: a multi-stage refrigerated cooling system (10) associated with the air inlet (18) of internal combustion engine and gas turbine prime movers (42) which provides thermodynamic efficiencies in accordance with a divided psychrometric inlet air cooling path enthalpy curve; cascading the cooled refrigerant from stage to stage to cool primary or secondary refrigerant from a first cooling stage (12) as a precooling heat transfer coolant to exchange against and subcool subsequent stages (14, 16) of primary or secondary refrigerant for cooling to the desired temperature; energizing power means to drive the prime mover (42) and refrigerant cooling system (1); and adjusting the power means (42) based on current energy costs to optimize net revenues to produce electricity or useful work from the prime mover application.

Method and apparatus for cooling the inlet air of gas turbine and internal combustion engine prime movers

An HVAC system for heating and cooling a passenger compartment of a vehicle is provided. A first heat exchanger (26) transfers heat between a primary loop (10) and a secondary loop (12). The primary loop (10) is a reversible loop and uses high pressure refrigerant. A compressor (20) pressurizes the refrigerant. A second heat exchanger (24) selectively transfers heat energy to and from the passenger compartment. The secondary loop (12) is a low pressure liquid coolant loop that passes through the first heat exchanger (26). A pump (40) moves fluid through the secondary loop (12). A third heat exchanger (42) transfers heat in either direction between an external medium and the fluid passing through the secondary loop (12). A secondary heat source (46) adds heat to the secondary loop (12) during a heating mode. A bypass means (44) selectively bypasses the secondary heat source (46) during a cooling mode.

Combined heating & air conditioning system for buses utilizing an electrified compressor having a modular high-pressure unit

An air conditioning apparatus and control method thereof is provided, in which two-stage variable-capacity compressors are connected in parallel with each other to control capacities of the two stage variable-capacity compressors according to indoor air conditioning loads. A pair of two-stage variable-capacity compressors are used in the air conditioning apparatus to be cost competitive and can obtain an effect in which the pair of two-stage variable-capacity compressors are controlled as if a large-scale variable-capacity compressor with a capacity the same as a total capacity of the two compressors were linearly controlled.

Air conditioning apparatus and control method thereof

An air conditioning system that includes desiccant compartments for holding a desiccant; a heat exchanger, a blower and a vessel. The heat exchanger can be filled with a heat transfer medium, while the blower blows ambient air by the heat exchanger such that the blown air is cooled and the heat exchanger is warmed such that thermal energy increases and is transferred from the air to the heat transfer medium causing the heat transfer medium to turn into vapor. The vapor is then diffused to one of the desiccant compartments such that the vapor is adsorbed onto the desiccant creating a mixture. Then an energy source is applied to the mixture such that the vapor and desiccant are separated. The separated vapor is transported to the vessel where it is condensed and then sent back to the heat exchanger, such that the system is able to be continuously operating.

Air-conditioning system

A refrigeration system and method of refrigeration employ dual refrigeration circuits. Each circuit has an independent compressor, condenser and evaporator. In one refrigeration circuit, the flow of the refrigerant from the condenser to the evaporator is regulated in response to variations in the heat load at the evaporator while, in the other refrigeration circuit, the refrigerant is passed from the condenser to the evaporator at a substantially constant rate of flow. The refrigeration system can be used as a cooling system, including an air conditioning system, and as a heat pump. The evaporator in both circuits may be incorporated within a common heat exchanger as may the two condensers. Additionally, the flow of the refrigerant from the condenser to the evaporator in one refrigeration circuit may be regulated in response to variations in the heat load in the evaporator in that refrigeration circuit by a thermal expansion valve.

Dual-circuit refrigeration system

An air conditioner includes a first refrigeration cycle with a capacity-variable type compressor, and a second refrigeration cycle with a constant rotation type compressor, both refrigeration cycles having outdoor heat exchangers while utilizing a single common indoor heat exchanger. The first refrigeration cycle has a bypass passage connected, at one end, between the suction side of the compressor and the indoor heat exchanger, and, at the other end, between the indoor heat exchanger and the outdoor heat exchanger. When the second refrigeration cycle is stopped, or the capacity variable compressor operated at a low operation frequency, a part of the coolant which passes through the outdoor heat exchanger in the first refrigeration cycle flows into the suction side of the compressor through the bypass passage.
