С возрастанием внимания к планированию национальных информационных ресурсов, расширением потребностей бизнеса и государства возникает необходимость в лучшем понимании новых методов стоимостной оценки информационных ресурсов со стороны руководителей, исследователей и практиков. Статья преследует следующие цели: выявление необходимости оценивания интеллектуального капитала на макроэкономическом уровне; пересмотр методологии оценивания интеллектуального капитала в масштабах одного государства; предложение методов оценивания и потребных областей их продвижения; выявление недостатков в существующих методах оценивания и формирование на этой основе направлений дальнейших исследований.

Notwithstanding the increasing researches on consumer behaviour, there is a dearth of studies that have investigated the influence of customer satisfaction on customer trust, loyalty and repurchase intention in the African retailing context. Therefore, using a data set of 151 from retailers in Gauteng Province of South Africa, this study examines these relationships. All the posited five hypotheses are supported. The results indicate that the relationship between customer satisfaction and their trust, customer satisfaction and their loyalty, customer trust and their loyalty, customer loyalty and their repurchase intention and customer trust and their repurchase intention are positive in a significant way. Does Customer Satisfaction Lead to Customer Trust, Loyalty and Repurchase Intention of Local Store Brands? The Case of Gauteng Province of South Africa

Background: Business intelligence (BI) has become an important part of the solution to providing businesses with the vital decision-making information they need to ensure sustainability and to build shareholder value. Critical success factors (CSFs) provide insight into those factors that organisations need to address to improve new BI projects’ chances of success. Objectives: This research aimed to determine which CSFs are the most important in the financial services sector of South Africa. Method: The authors used a Delphi-technique approach with key project stakeholders in three BI projects in different business units of a leading South African financial services group. Results: Authors regarded CSF categories of ‘committed management support and champion’,‘business vision’, ‘user involvement’ and ‘data quality’ as the most critical for BI success. Conclusions: Researchers in the BI field should note that the ranking of CSFs in this study only correlate partially with those a European study uncovered. However, the five factors the authors postulated in their theoretical framework ranked in the seven highest CSFs. Therefore, they provide a very strong validation of the framework. Research in other industries and other emerging economies may discover similar differences and partial similarities. Of special interest would be the degree of correlation between this study and future, and similar emerging market studies. Practitioners, especially BI project managers, would do well to check that they address the CSFs the authors uncovered before undertaking BI projects.

Critical success factors for business intelligence in the South African financial services sector : original research

The telecommunication industry is characterized as being volatile due to the nature of fast-moving technological changes. It is necessary therefore to accept that ordinary everyday business decisions that are taken to solve problems or identify opportunities are knowledgeable, accurate and timeous. These informed decisions are necessary in the normal course of every day business activities to ensure that the industry continues to grow and deliver effective and efficient services in terms of its mandate. What is assumed in terms of this article is that good decisions are not consistently made in the telecommunications sector, resulting in profit maximization being compromised. The question thus arises whether profitability will increase if consistent and good decisions are made in the ordinary course of doing business. This research attempted to address the question posed above and, although both approaches are addressed, more emphasis is placed on the technical aspect than on the business processes.

Business intelligence and the telecommunications industry: can business intelligence lead to higher profits?

Traditional knowledge systems that are closely linked to the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity should be conserved by indigenous communities through the establishment of indigenous knowledge programmes. In indigenous knowledge systems, aspects such as values and beliefs, medicine, technology, education, communication, agriculture, food, and arts and crafts should be managed to the benefit of the community. In the new knowledge economy, the knowledge of individuals is the greatest asset. The tacit and explicit components of indigenous knowledge must, therefore, be managed efficiently. The use of communities of practice serve as an example of a means of exchanging knowledge between communities, external parties with an interest in the conservation of indigenous knowledge and facilitators who can help with the creation and maintenance of indigenous knowledge.

Can models for knowledge management be successfully implemented to manage the diversity of indigenous knowledge

The status of the measurement and interpretation of intangible assets within a retail company in South Africa, and more specifically the JD Group as a furniture retailer, was determined. Different aspects of intellectual capital, that is, human capital, structural capital and customer capital and the value that could be derived to aid companies in the retail industry, were investigated. The spectrum of intellectual capital management tools was investigated and four methods of measuring intellectual capital were identified. Scorecard models were identified as the most appropriate method to use in a retail company in South Africa based on the following characteristics: Monitoring of performance, reporting to stakeholders and uncovering of hidden value. The extent to which intangible assets contribute value, how this contribution can be measured through the use of intellectual capital management tools and what the status of such measurement is in retail companies were explored. Strategy-focused interventions within the intangible assets arena were investigated. These interventions focused on those areas that would contribute to the strategic alignment of leadership, culture and technology within a retail group's strategy.
