This study is a survey and classification of the state-of-the-art in behavioural biometrics which is based on skills, style, preference, knowledge, motor-skills or strategy used by people while accomplishing different everyday tasks such as driving an automobile, talking on the phone or using a computer. The authors examine current research in the field and analyse the types of features used to describe different types of behaviour. After comparing accuracy rates for verification of users using different behavioural biometric approaches, researchers address privacy issues which arise or might arise in the future with the use of behavioural biometrics.

Behavioural biometrics: a survey and classification

This paper reviews the literature on occupancy-based lighting control as a prelude to the application of sensor networks to building management. Many buildings include systems to detect occupancy and control building services. Current systems use single measurement points to detect occupancy, and there can be significant uncertainty associated with the measurement of occupancy. Long time delay and high detector sensitivity settings compensate for this uncertainty, but these diminish the savings that could be achieved with more accurate occupancy measurement. More effective control may be provided by more extensive sensing, using a network of occupancy sensors, and more extensive analysis of sensor data. The literature reviewed in this paper establishes the need for an investigation of the performance of sensor networks when used for lighting control.

This report provides an overview of important concepts in the field of information fusion, followed by a review of literature pertaining to audio-visual person identification & verification. Several recent adaptive and non-adaptive techniques for reaching the verification decision (i.e., to accept or reject the claimant), based on audio and visual information, are evaluated in clean and noisy conditions on a common database using a text-independent setup. It is shown that in clean conditions all the non-adaptive approaches provide similar performance; in noisy conditions they exhibit deterioration in their performance. It is also shown that current adaptive approaches are either inadequate or utilize restrictive assumptions. A new category of classifiers is then introduced, where the decision surface is fixed but constructed to take into account the effects of noisy conditions, providing a good trade-off between performance in clean and noisy conditions.

Biometrics is an emerging topic in the field of signal processing. While technologies (e.g. audio, video) for biometrics have mostly been studied separately, ultimately, biometric technologies could find their strongest role as interwined and complementary pieces of a multi-modal authentication system. In this paper, a short overview of voice, fingerprint, and face authentication algorithms is provided.
