O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a biologia e as exigencias termicas de Tetranychus ludeni Zacher (Acari: Tetranychidae) em folhas de algodoeiro (Gossypium hirsutum L. r. latifolium (Hutch)). Foram utilizadas câmaras climatizadas, ajustadas nas temperaturas de 20, 23, 25, 28 e 30oC, umidade relativa de 70% e fotofase de 12 horas. Os periodos de desenvolvimento de ovo a adulto variaram de 20,77 (20oC) a 8,50 dias (30oC), em femeas, e de 18,83 (20oC) a 7,75 dias (30oC), em machos. As temperaturasbase, estimadas pelo metodo da interseccao de X, para os periodos de desenvolvimento de ovoadulto, foram de 14,05oC para femeas e 13,91oC para machos, enquanto os valores da constante termica estimados de acordo com a lei de Reamur foram de 138,34 grausdia, para femeas e 130,91 grausdia, para machos. Na temperatura de 30oC foram observados os maiores valores de razao intrinseca de crescimento (0,418), numero de ovos de femeas/dia (3,47), fecundidade (61,29) e taxa liquida de reproducao (48,00) e o menor valor para o tempo medio de uma geracao (9,27).

Comparative influence of temperature on development and biological control of two common vineyard pests (Acari: Tetranychidae)

Field experiments were conducted for two consecutive years (2002-03 and 2003-04) to study the parasitoids associated with cabbage aphid and diamond back moth and their extent of parsitisation in Marathwada region. The important parasitoids recorded were Aphidius spp. form cabbage aphids with maximum parasitisation of 76.43 and 82.33 per cent in 2002-03 and 2003-04 respectively. The parasitoids of P.xylostella include a larval parasite Cotesia plutellae and a larval and pupal parasite Oomyzus sokolowskii. The extent of larval and pupal parasitisation was 10.80 and 26.83 per cent respectively, in 2002-2003 while it was 11.33 and 28.38 per cent in 200304.

Studies on parasitoids associated with Cabbage Aphid Brevicoryne brassicae and diamond back moth, Plutella xylostella on cauliflower

Effects of 9 acaricides to the predatory mite, Neoseiulus californicus were evaluated. Seven of the acaricides tested, cyenopyrafen. spirodiclofen, spiromesifen, acequinocyl, bifenazate, flufenoxuron and cyflumetofen exhibited low toxicity to adult females and nymphs of N. californicus and had little effect on the reproduction and eclosion of eggs deposited by treated predators. Moreover, hatch percentage of N. californicus eggs was unaffected by exposure to these seven acaricides. Etoxazole did not significantly affect the survival and reproduction of adult female predators but caused very low eclosion in eggs laid by treated females and high egg mortality. Pyraclofos was extremely toxic to adult female predators and caused 100% mortality. Adult female predators survived on a diet of spider mites treated with cyenopyrafen. spirodiclofen, spiromesifen, acequinocyl, bifenazate, flufenoxuron and cyflumetofen and their fecundity was not substantially affected. Based on the results, cyenopyrafen. spirodiclofen, spiromesifen, acequinocyl, bifenazate, flufenoxuron and cyflumetofen are appeared to be promising candidates for use in integrated mite management program where N. californicus is the major natural enemy.
