TL;DR: This study demonstrates the importance of CBG measurement and the calculation of FCI for the interpretation of serum total cortisol in situations where CBG changes significantly, and the free cortisol index (FCI) correlates well with serum free cortisol.

TL;DR: The results suggest that the renin--angiotensin--aldosterone system is a normal mechanism for maintaining blood pressure and aldosterone secretion in normotensive man and the system may also be involved in the maintenance of sodium balance.
