A randomized controlled study of peanut oral immunotherapy: clinical desensitization and modulation of the allergic response.
Pooja Varshney,Stacie M. Jones,Amy M. Scurlock,Tamara T. Perry,Alex R. Kemper,Pamela H. Steele,Anne Hiegel,J. Kamilaris,S.K. Carlisle,Xiaohong Yue,Mike Kulis,Laurent Pons,Brian P. Vickery,A. Wesley Burks +13 more
TL;DR: Results conclusively demonstrate that peanut OIT induces desensitization and concurrent immune modulation and causes long-term immune tolerance in children ages 1 to 16 years with peanut allergy.

Journal ArticleDOI
Sustained unresponsiveness to peanut in subjects who have completed peanut oral immunotherapy.
Brian P. Vickery,Amy M. Scurlock,Michael D. Kulis,Pamela H. Steele,J. Kamilaris,Jelena P. Berglund,Caitlin M. Burk,Anne Hiegel,Suzanna K. Carlisle,Lynn Christie,Tamara T. Perry,Robbie D. Pesek,Saira Z Sheikh,Yamini V. Virkud,P. Brian Smith,Mohamed H. Shamji,Stephen R. Durham,Stacie M. Jones,A. Wesley Burks +18 more
TL;DR: This is the first demonstration of sustained unresponsiveness after peanut OIT, occurring in half of subjects treated for up to 5 years, and favorably modified the peanut-specific immune response in all subjects completing the protocol.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sublingual immunotherapy for peanut allergy: clinical and immunologic evidence of desensitization.
Edwin H. Kim,J. Andrew Bird,Michael D. Kulis,Susan Laubach,Laurent Pons,Wayne G. Shreffler,Pamela H. Steele,J. Kamilaris,Brian P. Vickery,A. Wesley Burks +9 more
TL;DR: This paper investigated the safety, clinical effectiveness, and immunologic changes with Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) in children with peanut allergy and found that the treatment group safely ingested 20 times more peanut protein than the placebo group during a double-blind, placebo-controlled food challenge.
Journal ArticleDOI
Safety of a peanut oral immunotherapy protocol in children with peanut allergy.
Alison M Hofmann,Amy M. Scurlock,Stacie M. Jones,Kricia P. Palmer,Yuliya Lokhnygina,Pamela H. Steele,J. Kamilaris,A. Wesley Burks +7 more
TL;DR: Subjects were more likely to have significant allergic symptoms during the initial escalation day when they were in a closely monitored setting than during other phases of the study.
