The World Wide Web (WWW) has become a convenient may to access information on the net because the WWW browser integrates different network services into a common easily accessible user interface. These features coupled with low investment cost are especially suited for accessing information of the SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system. This paper describes a unique Web-based application which is implemented based on the client/server architecture. The user can view the real-time data superimposed on one-line diagrams generated automatically using the VLSI's placement and routing techniques. In addition, the user can also control the operation of the substation at the server site. The choice of the Java language offers unique and powerful features such as zero client installation, on-demand access and platform independence to the design of the SCADA display system.

Web-based SCADA display systems (WSDS) for access via Internet

Three placement algorithms are presented that may be employed for the automatic generation of one-line diagrams of power systems. To demonstrate the ability of these algorithms, a one-line diagram auto generation software program (ODAG) has been developed. ODAG has been implemented using the Java programming language so that it is network accessible over the Internet as a one-line diagram design tool. Algorithms implemented in ODAG include Spring Embedder, Rooted Tree and Controlled Spring Embedder with Grid Aligning. They autogenerate one-line diagram layouts that are aesthetically pleasing with acceptable readability and user friendliness. Two networks have been used as examples in the paper to illustrate the one-line diagrams autogenerated by these algorithms.

Algorithms for automatic generation of one-line diagrams

A Microsoft Windows graphical package to facilitate the teaching and learning of power system symmetrical components is described in this paper. This package is written in Microsoft Visual Basic 3.0. This software calculates and displays graphically, the ABC sequence and the corresponding symmetrical component phasors. Students can manipulate the graphical displays by keyboard input or by mouse operation. The objective of this package is to help the students to better understand the various aspects of symmetrical components' analysis through a user-friendly graphical user interface.

A Windows based graphical user interface (GUI) software tool to facilitate the teaching and learning of sequence networks is described in this paper. This software is written in Microsoft Visual Basic. The software provides a friendly and easy to use tool to aid the students in better visualizing the effects of the sequence diagram and sequence current in the fault study. This tool has three main modules: a user designed one-line diagram; displaying the corresponding positive-, negative-, and zero-sequence diagrams; and displaying the path of the current in each sequence diagram, according to the type and the location of the fault.

Java-based applications for accessing power system data via intranet, extranet and internet

An interactive graphical user interface (GUI) package for the design, simulation and analysis of a power plant electrical auxiliary system is presented in this paper. The purpose of this package is to assist the engineer in performing nonreal-time, what-if, analysis in an interactive and intuitive environment. The package, AUXSYS, is capable of performing load flow and motor starting simulations. It provides a graphical interface for designing the one-line diagram of the plant and analyzing the output of the simulations. It is currently used for modelling Wisconsin Electric Power Company's (WEPCO) power plant electrical auxiliary systems and is implemented for use on PCs. >
