Journal ArticleDOI

Solar wind helium and hydrogen structure near the heliospheric current sheet: A signal of coronal streamers at 1 AU

TL;DR: In this paper, a superposed epoch analysis of 74 well-defined sector boundary crossings provides verification of the above correlation featuring a pronounced minimum in the helium to hydrogen abundance ratio at the sector boundary passage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Helium abundance enhancements in the solar wind

TL;DR: In this paper, a statistical analysis of 73 large helium abundance enhancement observations made by IMPs 6, 7 and 8 over 1972-1978 is presented, which suggests that the enhancement is embedded in a closed magnetically dominated structure that expands adiabatically.
Journal ArticleDOI

An analysis of shock wave disturbances observed at 1 AU from 1971 through 1978

TL;DR: In this article, the occurrence frequency and properties of the solar wind shock which produce He ion abundance enhancements were investigated and it was concluded that all shock waves at 1 AU originate in coronal mass ejection events, and the presence of He enrichment is attributable to the geometry of the area that produced the event.
