Even though the list of references associated with this review is rather extensive, in no way does it exhaust the vast literature dedicated to the study of cavitation. The intent was to summarize (i) advances in analytical and numerical modelling, (ii) draw attention to the thermodynamic aspects of cavitation, and (iii) do so while reflecting on physical or experimental observations.

Cavitation formation and modelling for fluid film bearings: A review

In this paper, we present a review of the experimental identification of dynamic parameters of bearings in a rotating machine. Major emphasis is given to vibration-based identification methods and the review encompasses descriptions of experimental measurement techniques, mathematical modeling, parameter extraction algorithms and uncertainty in the estimates applied to a variety of bearings. The parameter extraction algorithms include the descriptions of governing equations of the rotor-bearing system and identification methods in both time and frequency domains. The identification techniques have been classified based on methods used to excite the system. The review includes a variety of bearings and similar components, which play an active link between the rotating and stationary parts of a machine. Based on the state of the art in bearing identification, conclusions are made and future directions are suggested.

Experimental comparison of the performance of a journal bearing with a single and a twin axial groove configuration

The focus of this literature survey and review is model reduction methods and their application to rotor dynamic systems. Rotor
dynamic systems require careful consideration in their dynamic models as they include unsymmetric stiffness, localized nonproportional
damping, and frequency-dependent gyroscopic effects. The literature reviewed originates from both controls and
mechanical systems analysis and has been previously applied to rotor systems. This survey discusses the previous literature
reviews on model reduction, reduction methods applied to rotor systems, the current state of these reduction methods in rotor
dynamics, and the ability of the literature to reduce the complexities of large order rotor dynamic systems but allow accurate
solutions.

Experimental Parametric Study of a Squeeze Film Bearing

The squeeze-film damper, undergoing a whirl orbit as may be caused by rotor unbalance, resists eccentricity of the whirl orbit with a static stiffness which is proportional to the dynamic force carried by the squeeze-film. In addition, the fluid film force would develop nonsynchronous components. The short bearing analysis is applied to treat this problem. Implications regarding the unbalance dynamics of a rigid rotor in the presence of a static load are examined.
