This paper presents the quality analysis of cladding layers deposited on continuous steel casting rolls made of 41CrMo4 (EN 10083-1-91). The effect of filler used on the tribological properties of claddings was analyzed. There was minimal mixing between the base material and interlayer observed in the process of hard surfacing. The microstructure of the interlayer and the coatings is martensite–ferrite. Dispersed carbides MC, M7C3, and Cr23C6 were observed in the interlayer. Small amounts of carbides were also observed in the cover layer along with Cr2N and CrN, which was confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The highest average hardness, 410 HV30, was measured in the cover layer at a distance of 1 mm from the surface. The lowest hardness was found in the base material, 239 to 243 HV30. The hardness of the interlayer metal is affected by mixing of cladding and cover layer metal. Evaluation of the quality of cladding deposited on continuous steel casting rolls

This paper presents the possibility of restoration of worn contact surfaces of rollers for continuous casting of steel. Permanent effort of steel producers to extend the lifespan of these components requires the implementation of new filler materials or modifying technological renovation processes to reduce the economic costs. This matter seems to be very important for the world leaders in steel production, e.g., ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel, but also for smaller concerns such as Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, Salzgitter, etc. Renovation of continuous steel casting rollers, made of X12Cr13 EN 10088-1-97, was realised using submerged arc surfacing technology. Worn surface of roller was machined and surfaced using one interlayer and two cover layers. The quality of deposited layers was verified using non-destructive and destructive tests. The influence of filler material on the tribological properties of contact surfaces of deposited layers was analysed by abrasive wear test. Studies were made in the influence of surfacing parameters on cladding metal mixing (mixed) with base metal and also influence of heat introduced by welding using metallographic analysis. The experiments confirmed very good wear resistance of the applied filler metal due to dispersion strengthening caused by finely dispersed carbides and nitrides in the weld coating. The measures to be taken into account in renovation of rollers using hard surfacing, as well as the development of research in this area were also given. The experiments have confirmed that parameters used are suitable for studying filler materials.

Analysis of the quality renovated continuous steel casting roller

The article deals with analysis the quality of traverse crane wheels made of weld repaired Gr. 90-60 material, ASTM A148. Three types of weld repair technologies with various filling materials were used. Weared wheel was welded with one interlayer in combination of additional materials wire A 106 with F 1, and two cover layers made in combination of A 508 wire with F 13 addition. Wheel surface was hardened after welding to depth of 3 mm. As a second technology was combination of A 106 wire with F 11 addition. Two cover layers were made by combination of RD 520 wire with F 56 addition. Third technology was realized with one layer of C 113 wire in inert atmosphere 80 % Ar + 20% CO2. Two cover layers were made by wire with self protect Lincore 40-O. Properties of repaired traverse crane wheels were compared with the properties of new wheels with surface hardened layer. The welds were exposed to adhesive wearing where surface resistance was examined by the weight loss. Influence of particular elements on the welds chemical composition was examined by EDX analyzes. .
