Predicting ADL disability in community-dwelling elderly people using physical frailty indicators: a systematic review
Joan Vermeulen,Jacques C. L. Neyens,Erik van Rossum,Erik van Rossum,Marieke D. Spreeuwenberg,Marieke D. Spreeuwenberg,Luc P. de Witte,Luc P. de Witte +7 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that individual physical frailty indicators, such as weight loss, gait speed, grip strength, physical activity, balance, and lower extremity function are predictors of future ADL disability in community-dwelling elderly people.
Journal ArticleDOI
Malnutrition is associated with an increased risk of falls and impaired activity in elderly patients in Dutch residential long-term care (LTC): A cross-sectional study
Jacques C. L. Neyens,Ruud J.G. Halfens,Marieke D. Spreeuwenberg,Judith M.M. Meijers,Yvette C. Luiking,George Verlaan,Jos M. G. A. Schols +6 more
TL;DR: This study explores the relationship between malnutrition, activity, and falls in Dutch LTC residents and the influence of nutritional intervention and found that malnourished residents who receive nutritional intervention have a lower risk of being a faller.

Journal ArticleDOI
Effectiveness and implementation aspects of interventions for preventing falls in elderly people in long-term care facilities: a systematic review of RCTs.
Jacques C. L. Neyens,Jolanda C. M. van Haastregt,Béatrice P. Dijcks,Mark Martens,Wim J. A. van den Heuvel,Luc P. de Witte,Jos M. G. A. Schols,Jos M. G. A. Schols +7 more
TL;DR: The data support the conclusions of Gillespie et al. that multifactorial interventions in long-term care populations seem more likely to be beneficial and single interventions (eg, targeting vitamin D insufficiency) can be effective.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predicting falls in elderly receiving home care: The role of malnutrition and impaired mobility
Judith M.M. Meijers,Ruud J.G. Halfens,Jacques C. L. Neyens,Yvette C. Luiking,George Verlaan,Jos M. G. A. Schols +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown that fallers are more often malnourished than non-fallers in the univariate analysis and indicated by multivariate analysis that faller could be predicted by the risk factors immobility, malnutrition and high care dependency.
