Standard word lists that are often used for such operations as predictive text, spell checking, and word completion are based on general linguistic data that might not accurately reflect actual text usage patterns of particular users. Systems and methods of building and using a custom word list for use in text operations on an electronic device are provided. A collection of text items associated with a user of the electronic device is scanned to identify words in the text items. A weighting is then assigned to each identified word, and the words and corresponding weightings are stored.

The invention involves an apparatus for recovering the carrier signal in OPSK or QAM data. First an energy directed phase detector controls a voltage controlled oscillator so that the output signal has a phase that is within a few degrees of the carrier phase. Following this coarse acquisition, the system clock timing is recovered and established. A decision directed phase detector, using the system clock information, then controls the VCO to adjust the output signal phase to within a very small tolerance of the actual carrier phase.

The oscillation signal is divided down by factor N before passing into the heterodyne translation loop circuit.
