A storm panel and attachment apparatus for protecting an exterior window in a structure includes three frame members attached to the structure peripheral to the window. A panel assembly includes a panel member and a panel-mounted connector assembly connected to the panel member. The panel-mounted connector assembly connects the panel assembly to the structure either directly or by way of a frame member. In a first embodiment, the panel-mounted connector assembly includes a panel-attached frame member which includes a first frame portion connected to the panel member and a second frame portion adapted for connection to the structure. U-shaped channels in the frame members are adapted to receive edges of the panel member when the panel member is slid onto the frame members. In a second embodiment, the panel-mounted connector assembly includes a plurality of captive first connector elements distributed at first positions on the panel-mounted connector assembly. Each of the frame members includes a plurality of captive second connector elements distributed at second positions on the frame members. When the first positions are placed in registration with the second positions, the first connector elements can be connected to the second connector elements whereby the panel member is mounted on the frame members. More specifically, the panel member is connected to the frame members which are connected to the structure. In a third embodiment, the panel member includes a removable and replaceable handle.

Storm panel and attachment apparatus

A removable storm shield, and method of attaching a removable storm shield, to protect an opening in the wall of a building structure from damage caused as a result of foul weather conditions or other destructive acts. The storm shield includes a convex panel having a centrally located portion with a substantially singularly convex cross-section that resists exterior forces and a flat peripheral portion for stabilizing surface contact with the exterior wall, a plurality of fasteners to attach the convex panel to the wall, and a plurality of slots defined in the flat portion through which each fastener is slidably attached to the convex panel.

Removable storm shield

A partially transparent storm shutter for protecting glass windows, doors, and similar building openings from damage due to wind forces and wind driven flying objects is formed of a plurality of adjacent corrugated sheet metal and transparent protective, impact resistant sheet panels rigidly connected together along their respective adjacent edges. Special connector members are utilized to connect the transparent panel or panels to the corrugated sheet metal panel(s) and special connector members may be utilized to connect together adjacent transparent panels used in the storm shutter. The transparent panels may be formed of tough, impact resistant, polycarbonate plastic sheet material.

Partially transparent storm shutter

A shutter system and method in which the shutters are normally rolled to a nominal one foot width and have an infinite length, normally no less than two feet and no more than twelve feet is disclosed. These dimensions can be modified on one foot modules. The shutters are provided with a self-secured panel lock assembly at the overlapping joints on the inside between the shutter and windows normally on two foot spacing vertically. This can be horizontal, however, in other applications. The system includes the utilization of an angle frame at the base, and an overlapping receiver as a header. End caps may be of varying shapes but normally are typical L-shaped angles. An alternative system is direct mounted and omits the header and the footer, but must extend above and below the opening by a minimum of four inches for a twelve inch wide shutter panel, or two inches for a six inch wide shutter panel. The panel lock assembly and its spacing remains the same as the embodiment utilizing a header and a footer except that the screws are positioned at the top and the bottom of the opening being covered. The shutters are installed by raising the same upwardly and inwardly to the overhang on the upper header, lowering the same to the point where the lower portion overlap has a keyhole slot, aligning the same, and then manually threading the panel lock assembly in place and the bottom lock screw in place. Where the extrusions of the system are not employed, the threaded members engage a concrete anchor secured in the wall of the structure.

Shutter system and method

A storm shutter assembly used to protect glass windows and doors in homes, office buildings, and other walled structures from the destructive force of storm systems, such as hurricanes. The present storm shutter assembly includes a corrugated panel made up of at least one sheet of a shatter-resistant and transparent plastic material having a plurality of corrugations. Each corrugated sheet of the plastic material is firmly secured to the walled structure.

This invention relates to hurricane panel installations of the type designed to be installed to cover windows and doors against the effects of wind and atmospheric conditions which might otherwise have the effect of destroying the windows and doors and which includes a tamper proof security means of preserving the installation against unauthorized removal of the panel to gain entrance to the premises This security means is installed at the outer side of the panel in engagement with a securing device to prevent withdrawal of the securing device and the security means is secured from the inner side of the panel where an intruder would not have access so that the panel could only be released from the inside by an occupant of the premises, after which it could be removed from the outside
