TL;DR: In children undergoing the Norwood procedure, transplantation-free survival at 12 months was better with the RVPA shunt than with the MBT shunt, and the rate of nonfatal serious adverse events at the age of 12 months were similar in the two groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiac surgery in infants with low birth weight is associated with increased mortality: analysis of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Database.
Christopher L. Curzon,Sarah Milford-Beland,Jennifer S. Li,Sean M. O'Brien,Jeffrey P. Jacobs,Marshall L. Jacobs,Karl F. Welke,Andrew J. Lodge,Eric D. Peterson,James Jaggers +9 more
TL;DR: Low weight at the time of surgical intervention is associated with increased mortality in patients undergoing several types of cardiovascular procedures, and these data support the need for prospective analysis of specific treatment strategies for these high-risk patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Congenital Heart Surgery Outcomes in Down Syndrome: Analysis of a National Clinical Database
James C. Fudge,Shuang Li,James Jaggers,Sean M. O'Brien,Eric D. Peterson,Jeffrey P. Jacobs,Jeffrey P. Jacobs,Karl F. Welke,Marshall L. Jacobs,Jennifer S. Li,Sara K. Pasquali +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe patient characteristics and postoperative morbidity and mortality rates for patients with Down syndrome undergoing congenital heart disease surgery, including tetralogy of fallot repair and atrioventricular septal defect repair.
Journal ArticleDOI
Outcome of unroofing procedure for repair of anomalous aortic origin of left or right coronary artery
Robert L Romp,J. René Herlong,Carolyn K Landolfo,Stephen P. Sanders,Coleen E Miller,Ross M. Ungerleider,James Jaggers +6 more
TL;DR: Surgical correction of AAOCA can be carried out with minimal risk and good anatomic and functional results, and Manipulation of the commissure can be avoided by creation of a neo-ostia without extensive unroofing of the intramural segment or manipulation of the intercoronary commissures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for infant postcardiotomy support: significance of shunt management.
James Jaggers,Joseph M. Forbess,Ashish S. Shah,Jon N. Meliones,Paul M. Kirshbom,Coleen E Miller,Ross M. Ungerleider +6 more
TL;DR: In patients with single-ventricle physiology and aorto-pulmonary shunts, leaving the shunt open during the period of support can result in markedly improved outcomes.
