The Extinction of Endemic Species by a Program of Biological Control

TL;DR: Land snails of the genus Partula, inhabiting the high islands of the Pacific Ocean, have provided exceptional opportunities for studies of the origin and differentiation ofspecies, and it is expected that all the remaining taxa (possibly excepting P. exigua) will be eliminated by the giant African snail introduced into Moorea.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ecological genetics and speciation in land snails of the genus Partula

TL;DR: Ecological and genetic studies on P. taeniata have led to the suggestion that striking divergence between adjacent populations can take place even in the absence of geographical barriers, and an explanation in these terms would clarify many of the puzzling phenomena observed in populations of Partula.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Genus Partula on Moorea: Speciation in Progress

TL;DR: The authors' observations are consistent with the view that all the Moorean taxa (excepting Samoana) are descendants of a single ancestral invasion, although the possibility of more than one invasion cannot be excluded.
