An improved reforming process is obtained using a catalyst containing platinum, rhenium and chloride disposed on a particulate support formed using alumina obtained by removing water from an aluminum hydroxide produced as a by-product of a Ziegler higher-alcohol synthesis, when the catalyst is prepared by calcining the alumina support at a temperature between 1000° -1500° F to provide a support having a surface area between 140-240 m 2 /g, then impregnating a platinum compound and a rhenium compound into the calcined alumina in the presence of a sufficiently high concentration of chloride to obtain an impregnated composition, which, upon drying, contains at least 1.4 weight percent total chloride, and finally calcining the impregnated preparation to reduce the total chloride content of the final catalyst to less than 1.2 weight percent.

Catalytic reforming process and catalyst

Hydrocarbons are converted by contacting them at hydrocarbon conversion conditions with a novel superactive multimetallic catalytic composite comprising a combination of a catalytically effective amount of a pyrolyzed rhenium carbonyl component with a porous carrier material containing a uniform dispersion of a catalytically effective amount of a platinum group component which is maintained in the elemental metallic state. In a highly preferred embodiment, this novel catalytic composite also contains a catalytically effective amount of a halogen component. The platinum group component, pyrolyzed rhenium carbonyl component and optional halogen component are preferably present in the multimetallic catalytic composite in amounts, calculated on an elemental basis, corresponding to about 0.01 to about 2 wt. % platinum group metal, about 0.01 to abour 5 wt. % rhenium and about 0.1 to about 3,5 wt. % halogen. A key feature associated with the preparation of the subject catalytic composite is reaction of a rhenium carbonyl complex with a porous carrier material containing a uniform dispersion of a platnium group metal maintained in the elemental state, whereby the interaction of the rhenium moiety with the platinum group moiety is maximized due to the platinophilic (i.e. platinum-seeking) propensities of the carbon monoxide ligand used in the rhenium reagent. A specific example of the type of hydrocarbon conversion process disclosed herein is a process for the catalytic reforming of a low octane gasoline fraction wherein the gasoline fraction and a hydrogen stream are contacted with the subject superactive multimetallic catalytic composite art reforming conditions.

Hydrocarbon conversion with a superactive multimetallic catalytic composite

A hydrocarbon aromatization process comprising adding a nitrogenate, an oxygenate, or both to a hydrocarbon stream to produce an enhanced hydrocarbon stream, and contacting the enhanced hydrocarbon stream with an aromatization catalyst, thereby producing an aromatization reactor effluent comprising aromatic hydrocarbons, wherein the catalyst comprises a non-acidic zeolite support, a group VIII metal, and one or more halides. Also disclosed is a hydrocarbon aromatization process comprising monitoring the presence of an oxygenate, a nitrogenate, or both in an aromatization reactor, monitoring at least one process parameter that indicates the activity of the aromatization catalyst, modifying the amount of the oxygenate, the nitrogenate, or both in the aromatization reactor, thereby affecting the parameter.

Method of enhancing an aromatization catalyst

The activity of supported cobalt catalysts for hydrocarbon synthesis is maximized by carrying out the reduction at conditions that keep both the partial pressure of water vapor and the maximum reduction temperature below critical maximum values. For titania supported cobalt catalysts, the preferred maximum water partial pressure is one atmosphere and the preferred maximum reduction temperature is 375 °C.

A system, apparatus, and method for spacing and aligning flutes to be routed in a workpiece is disclosed. The system includes a flute-spacing jig with spaced alignment holes, a workpiece aligner, and a fence guide. Additionally, the system can include a T-square with adjustable stop-blocks.

Increased product yields are obtained using an alumina-platinum group metal-rhenium-halogen catalyst wherein the alumina is derived from hydrous alumina predominating in alumina trihydrate by employing a water concentration in contact with the catalyst during processing regulated within a range higher than substantially anhydrous conditions. Additional beneficial results are obtained, if, prior to processing, the catalyst is contacted with a hydrogen-containing gas containing at least about 5 mole ppm. of water vapor.
