A flowmeter is disclosed. The flowmeter includes a vibratable conduit, and a driver connected to the conduit that is operable to impart motion to the conduit. A sensor is connected to the conduit and is operable to sense the motion of the conduit and generate a sensor signal. A controller is connected to receive the sensor signal. The controller is operable to detect a single-phase flow condition and process the sensor signal using a first process during the single-phase flow condition to generate a validated mass-flow measurement. The controller is also operable to detect a two-phase flow condition and process the sensor signal using a second process during the two-phase flow condition to generate the validated mass-flow measurement.

Correcting for two-phase flow in a digital flowmeter

This mass flow/density sensor (10), which can be installed in a pipe and through which a fluid to be measured flows during operation, is to be balanced over a wide density range, so that accurate measurements are possible. A single straight measuring tube (13) having a longitudinal axis (131) extends between its inlet end (11) and the outlet end (12) and is fixed to a support, e.g., a cylindrical tube (14, 14'). The support has a longitudinal centroidal line (141) which is parallel to, but does not coincide with, the longitudinal axis (131) of the measuring tube. A cantilever (15) is fixed to the measuring tube (13) midway between the inlet and outlet ends (11, 12) and in operation causes the measuring tube to vibrate either in a first fundamental flexural mode or in a second fundamental flexural mode having a higher frequency than this first mode. An excitation arrangement (16) disposed midway between the end pieces excites the measuring tube (13) in the second mode. Sensors (17, 18) for the motions of the measuring tube on the inlet and outlet side are positioned between the middle of the tube and the inlet and outlet ends, respectively. The support may be provided with a counterbalance. Because of the torsional vibrations exerted by the cantilever on the measuring tube, the sensor is also well suited for measuring the viscosity of the fluid.

Coriolis massflow/density sensor with a single straight measuring tube

A Coriolis flowmeter is operable as a vibrating tube densitometer where a flowtube is driven to vibrate at a fundamental frequency from which density of the material flowing through the flowtube may be calculated. The drive gain is monitored as an indicator of multiphase flow including gas and liquid components where a substantial increase in drive gain indicates gas damping of the flowtube vibrations due to a transient bubble entering the flowtube. The gas damping effects of the transient bubble and the correspondingly reduced density readings are remediated by the use of historical density measurements corresponding to periods of flow when no transient bubble has entered the flowtube.

Correction of coriolis flowmeter measurements due to multiphase flows

A capacitive pick off sensor for a mass flow measurement device is disclosed. The mass flow measurement device includes a flow sensor tube and a drive device for vibrating the flow sensor tube. The capacitive pick off sensor includes at least one conductive plate connectable to a first voltage potential and adapted to be situated adjacent the flow sensor tube which is connected to a second voltage potential. The conductive plate is positioned relative to the flow sensor tube so as to define a gap therebetween. The capacitance between the conductive plate and the flow sensor tube varies due to the relative motion of the conductive plate and the flow sensor tube when the flow sensor tube is vibrated. In other aspects of the present invention, the flow sensor tube is situated in a housing and the drive device is positioned outside the housing for vibrating the flow sensor tube.

Coriolis mass flow controller

A Coriolis effect densimeter which produces density output data of improved accuracy by embodying the principal that the natural frequency of a vibrating tube filled with material decreases with an increase in the material mass flow rate. High accuracy output data is achieved by measuring the natural frequency of the tube as material flows therethrough, correcting the measured frequency to compensate for the decrease in natural frequency caused the material flow (mass flow rate) and using the corrected natural frequency in the material density computation.

Vibrating tube densimeter

Apparatus and accompanying methods for implementing both an accurate densimeter and a net oil computer utilizing a common Coriolis meter assembly is described. In essence, this apparatus measures density of an unknown fluid by first determining the period at which both flow tubes contained within a dual tube Coriolis meter oscillate while the unknown fluid passes therethrough. This apparatus then squares the result. Thereafter, the density of the unknown fluid is determined as a linear function that relates the squared tube period measurement for the unknown fluid, and squared tube period measurements and known density values for two known fluids, such as air and water, that have previously and successively passed through the meter during calibration. When used as a net oil computer, the inventive system obtains mass flow and temperature measurements from the same flow tubes. By using measured density and mass flow values of an oil-water emulsion that flows through the same Coriolis meter, the inventive system can advantageously provide both volumetric and mass based measurements of the flow rate and totalized flow of the entire emulsion and of the individual water and oil components present therein.
