A portable electronic device with a touch screen display for photo management is disclosed. One aspect of the invention involves a computer-implemented method in which the portable electronic device displays an array of thumbnail images corresponding to a set of photographic images. The device replaces the displayed array of thumbnail images with a user-selected photographic image upon detecting a user contact with a corresponding thumbnail image in the array. The user-selected photographic image is displayed at a larger scale than the corresponding thumbnail image. The portable device displays a different photographic image in replacement of the user-selected photographic image in accordance with a scrolling gesture. The scrolling gesture comprises a substantially horizontal movement of user contact with the touch screen display.

Information associated with the objects, including information specifying the temporal and spatial placements of the objects within the video is stored. When users view a marked video, object information is accessed, and objects are presented in the video at the temporal and spatial locations at which the objects were added. Objects added to videos may also be indexed, providing a mechanism for searching videos and jumping to particular frames within videos. Objects may also be monetized.

A method and apparatus for tagging image content with rich metadata is provided. The metadata is generated from keyword descriptions of image content spoken by human taggers whilst viewing the content. Voice recognition software is employed to identify the key keywords in an audio stream and the resultant metadata is associated in a synchronous manner with the relevant image content. A control console allows the human tagger to rapidly navigate onscreen menus and select different taglines for providing multilevel metadata tagging of the image content. An integrated system provides for the storage of tagged digital image content, with near immediate access to tagged raw footage for viewing and editing, and for easy searching and accessing of finalized footage. A method of serving the tagged content is also provide, which allows the content to be streamed over the web at an acceptable image resolution whilst maintaining the associated metatags.

Metadata tagging of moving and still image content

Digital images are captured on a digital camera, automatically formatted, and uploaded to a server for review and collaborative modifications. An on-line web gallery is automatically generated by the server whereby low resolution versions of the images are transferred to the server and appear in the gallery within seconds from capturing the images. Among other things, a viewer located remotely from a photographer can observe new images in the gallery in real time as they are captured, place a request for post-production modifications to selected images and download a high resolution version of selected images.
