Die Idee zu diesem Vortrag war in Gurna en t s t anden , als Sergio Donadoni und Alessandro Roccati mich f ü r Turin anwarben ; zwar w a r ich dann le ider doch v e r h i n d e r t , nach Turin zu k o m m e n (ebenso wie 1994 nach Rom), aber das geplan te Thema hat mich nicht losgelassen und blieb f ü r mich mit dem Namen Sergio Donadonis v e r b u n d e n . So ist es f ü r mich eine besonde re Freude, dem v e r e h r t e n Freunde n u n diesen Beitrag f ü r seine Festschrif t widmen zu können. 1

Abstract: Unter den vielen Interessen und Forschungsgebieten, die Herman te Velde in sei ner ägyptologischen Praxis pflegt, sind es die Sargtexte und die Erforschung ihres religiösen Kontexts, auf die sich der folgende Beitrag bezieht. In der gemeinsamen Betreuung von Harco Willems' Dissertation sind wir uns in diesem Punkt beson ders nahe gekommen, und ich benutze die Gelegenheit dieses Beitrags nicht nur zu den herzlichsten Glückwünschen an den Jubilar, sondern auch zum Ausdruck meines Dankes für die Gastfreundschaft in Groningen. In der Festschrift für Gamal Mokhtar (1985) hatte Helmut Satzinger auf eine "Ka nopeninschrift mit Anklängen an das königliche TotenopferRitual des Alten Reichs" aufmerksam gemacht. Das Wiener Kanopengefäß Inv. Nr. 5182 aus Alabaster stammt aus der Saitenzeit. Der Text ist eine Rede des Horussohns Duamutef an den Verstor benen. Da sich der Text im Licht der Varianten, die den bisherigen Bearbeitern ent gangen sind, etwas anders darstellt, gebe ich ihn hier nochmals in eigener Umschrift und Übersetzung:
