Experimental reproduction of severe bluetongue in sheep
Nigel J Maclachlan,Nigel J Maclachlan,Jan Ernst Crafford,William Vernau,Ian A. Gardner,Amelia Goddard,Alan John Guthrie,Estelle Hildegard Venter +7 more
TL;DR: A reliable model for experimental reproduction of fulminant BT in sheep will facilitate future studies to better characterize the pathogenesis of this disease, particularly as it regards the mechanisms responsible for the increased vascular permeability that characterizes BT and related orbiviral diseases such as African horse sickness.
Journal ArticleDOI
A group-specific, indirect sandwich ELISA for the detection of equine encephalosis virus antigen
Jan Ernst Crafford,Alan John Guthrie,M. Van Vuuren,Peter P. C. Mertens,J.N. Burroughs,P. G. Howell,C. Hamblin +6 more
TL;DR: The data generated in this study suggest that the ELISA will be valuable for epidemiological studies of EE and will assist in making a reliable differential diagnosis between EEV and AHSV infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
An African horse sickness virus serotype 4 recombinant canarypox virus vaccine elicits specific cell-mediated immune responses in horses.
H. El Garch,Jan Ernst Crafford,P. Amouyal,P.Y. Durand,C. Edlund Toulemonde,L. Lemaitre,V. Cozette,Alan John Guthrie,Jules Maarten Minke +8 more
TL;DR: Characterizing the CMI induced by the experimental ALVAC(®)-AHSV4 vaccine demonstrated that an experimental recombinant canarypox based vaccine induced significant CMI specific for both VP2 and VP5 proteins of AHSV 4.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of Anaplasma antibodies in wildlife and domestic species in wildlife-livestock interface areas of Kenya by major surface protein 5 competitive inhibition enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay
Joseph N. Ngeranwa,S.P. Shompole,Estelle Hildegard Venter,A. Wambugu,Jan Ernst Crafford,Barend Louis Penzhorn +5 more
TL;DR: The results indicate a high seroprevalence of Anaplasma antibodies in both wildlife and livestock populations in Kenya, in contrast to earlier reports from Kenya, which indicated a low serop revalence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seroprevalence survey of Chlamydophila abortus infection in breeding goats on commercial farms in the Otavi Veterinary District, northern Namibia.
TL;DR: In this article, a total of 1 076 sera from breeding goats were randomly collected from 24 different farms and tested with CHEKIT®-ELISA (IDEXX Laboratories B.V., 1 119 NE Schiphol-Rijk, Nederland) for antibodies against Chlamydophila abortus.
