Journal ArticleDOI
Estimation of nuclear DNA content in plants using flow cytometry.
TL;DR: Four protocols for sample preparation (suspensions of intact cell nuclei) and the analysis of nuclear DNA amounts using FCM are presented and the most frequent problems encountered with plant material such as the interference of secondary metabolites are described.
Journal ArticleDOI
The more the better? The role of polyploidy in facilitating plant invasions
Mariska te Beest,Mariska te Beest,Johannes J. Le Roux,David M. Richardson,Anne K. Brysting,Jan Suda,Jan Suda,Magdalena Kubešová,Magdalena Kubešová,Petr Pyšek,Petr Pyšek +10 more
TL;DR: Polyploidy can be an important factor in species invasion success through a combination of 'pre-adaptation', whereby polyploid lineages are predisposed to conditions in the new range and, therefore, have higher survival rates and fitness in the earliest establishment phase.
INVITED REVIEW The more the better? The role of polyploidy in facilitating plant invasions
TL;DR: In this article, the authors synthesize current knowledge on the importance of polyploidy for the invasion (i.e., spread) of introduced plants and provide an overview of ploidal levels in selected invasive alien plants and explain how ploidy might have contributed to their success.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nuclear vs. plastid data: complex Pleistocene history of a circumpolar key species.
Pernille Bronken Eidesen,Inger Greve Alsos,Magnus Popp,Øyvind Stensrud,Jan Suda,Christian Brochmann +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the ploidy levels were largely consistent with the cpDNA lineages, suggesting that the initial cpDNA divergence followed early polyploidizations, which may prevent cytoplasmic introgression and result in overlayed patterns formed by processes dominating at different time scales.
