Journal ArticleDOI
Feasibility and effectiveness of an aerobic exercise program in children with fibromyalgia: Results of a randomized controlled pilot trial
Samantha Stephens,Brian M. Feldman,Nicolette Bradley,Jane E. Schneiderman,Virginia Wright,Davinder Singh-Grewal,Arlette Lefebvre,Susanne M. Benseler,Bonnie Cameron,Ronald M. Laxer,Christine O’Brien,Rayfel Schneider,Earl D. Silverman,Lynn Spiegel,Jennifer Stinson,Pascal N. Tyrrell,Kristi Whitney,Shirley M. L. Tse +17 more
TL;DR: It is feasible to conduct an exercise intervention trial in children with FM and significant improvements in physical function, FM symptoms, QOL, and pain were demonstrated in both exercise groups; the aerobics group performed better in several measures compared with the qigong group.
Journal ArticleDOI
Longitudinal relationship between physical activity and lung health in patients with cystic fibrosis
Jane E. Schneiderman,Donna L. Wilkes,Eshetu G. Atenafu,Thanh Nguyen,Greg D. Wells,Nancy Alarie,Elizabeth Tullis,Larry C. Lands,Allan L. Coates,Mary Corey,Felix Ratjen +10 more
TL;DR: Increases in HPA are feasible despite progression of lung disease and are associated with a slower rate of decline in FEV1, highlighting the benefit of regular physical activity, and its positive impact on lung function in patients with CF.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Provides Additional Prognostic Information in Cystic Fibrosis.
Helge Hebestreit,Erik H. J. Hulzebos,Jane E. Schneiderman,C. Karila,Steven R. Boas,Susi Kriemler,Tiffany Dwyer,Tiffany Dwyer,Margareta Sahlberg,Don S. Urquhart,Larry C. Lands,Felix Ratjen,Tim Takken,Liobou Varanistkaya,Viktoria Rücker,Alexandra Hebestreit,Jakob Usemann,Thomas Radtke +17 more
TL;DR: CPET provides additional prognostic information to established predictors of death/lung transplantation in CF and high‐risk patients may especially benefit from regular monitoring of exercise capacity and exercise counseling.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exercise and physical activity in children with cystic fibrosis.
Donna L. Wilkes,Jane E. Schneiderman,Thanh Nguyen,Liane Heale,Fiona J. Moola,Felix Ratjen,Allan L. Coates,Greg D. Wells +7 more
TL;DR: Education of health care providers regarding the importance of exercise and habitual physical activity for patients with CF is needed in order for exercise and physical activity to be incorporated as key components of clinical practice and into the lives of patients withCF.
Journal ArticleDOI
Skeletal muscle metabolism in cystic fibrosis and primary ciliary dyskinesia.
Greg D. Wells,Donna L. Wilkes,Jane E. Schneiderman,Tammy Rayner,Maryam Elmi,Hiran Selvadurai,Sharon D. Dell,Michael D. Noseworthy,Felix Ratjen,Ingrid Tein,Allan L. Coates +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that not only there are specific abnormalities of muscle metabolism in CF patients but also there is a nonspecific impact of respiratory disease on muscle function.
