A system and method for selectively establishing a user information path over an information transport network between first and second endpoints of first and second private network partitions, respectively. The system comprises: (1) signalling circuitry, associated with the first and second private network partitions, adapted to establish a signalling channel adapted to communicate signalling messages between the first and second private network partitions, the signalling channel allowing: (a) the first private network partition to initiate a call request to the second private network partition to request initiation of a call from the first endpoint to the second endpoint and (b) the second private network partition to initiate a response to said call request of the first private network partition to acknowledge that the second endpoint is able to receive the call from the first endpoint and (2) switching circuitry, associated with the first and second private network partitions, adapted to establish a user information path over the information transport network only after the first private network partition receives the response to the call request the user information path adapted to allow point-to-point communication of user information between the first and second endpoints, the user information path never established if the second endpoint is unable to receive the call from the first endpoint.

System and method for signalling and call processing for private and hybrid communications systems including multimedia systems

A unique four function surgical instrument that performs aspiration, irrigation, dilation and cauterization with an innovative trigger mechanism. An embodiment is “gun-like” in configuration having a housing with a depending handle and a protruding trigger, a forward extending pair of forceps-like arms that terminate in dilation/cauterization tips and a common conduit between the forceps-like arms. The unique trigger mechanism utilizes a pinch valve concept where the trigger button has an elongated portion that has two slide surfaces with offset a recesses that act like tracks on which pinch sliders follow and the pinch sliders act like valve stems that squeeze close and allow to open silicone tubing. The end result, being a single poll, two stage actuator such that a half a pump of the trigger delivers irrigation or aspiration and a full pump delivers the other. The instrument provides the advantages of small size, ergonomical and all-in-one so as to eliminate the need for a surgeon to fumble around in switching between instruments.

Four function surgical instrument

In an integrated circuit/packet switching network comprising a plurality of nodes and one or more common access loops for inter-node network, an integrated circuit/packet switching system comprises a fixed time cycle frame format allotted to the loop or loops. Each of the nodes functions in accordance with the frame format to assemble one or more composite packets for each destination node from a plurality of circuit- and packet-switched calls designated to said each destination node and to send the assembled composite packet or packets on the loop or loops for each frame cycle time. Each node also functions in accordance with the frame format to extract self-designated composite packets among composite packets on the loop or loops and to disassemble the extracted composite packets into the constituent circuit- and packet-switched calls.

Integrated circuit/packet switching system

Communication between a source and a destination is dynamically established. A connection request is received. The connection request is based on a request transmitted over a best-effort path from the source. A network connection is established having a specified quality of service (QoS) based on the request between the source and the destination. Data for a first application is transmitted over the network connection and data for a second application is transmitted over the best-effort path.

A composite data transmission system wherein packet switching stations adapted to transmit data of the kind for which transfer delay and periodicity do not matter and operated to detect collisions between packets in the light of alterations in the DC voltage level of packet signals and circuit switching stations adapted to transmit data of the kind requiring periodic transmission are connected to one and the same transmission line, which composite data transmission system is characterized by causing DC voltage signals of a fixed magnitude to flow with prescribed periods through the transmission line thereby enabling the packet switching stations to recognize collisions and permitting the circuit switching stations to exchange communication during the existence of the packet switching stations' recognition of collisions and permitting the packet switching stations to exchange communication during the absence of the DC voltage signals' flow.

Composite data transmission system

The switching network included in the system is connected to circuit mode and/or packet mode mono- or multi-channel digital lines via connection modules. These modules enable the system connections to be standardized and accept thus any number of multiplexed channels in the lines and any transmission mode, namely duplex or half-duplex. The flag/packet transition in a packet mode channel is detected in a connection module and is transmitted as a particular word in a predetermined time interval of the outgoing multiplex of this module, at the same time as the address of the channel, thereby precluding the use of purpose-built links.
