The invention relates to a composing stick for producing numberplates. This composing stick comprises two rectangular frames 10, 12 of identical dimensions, each formed from flat bars 14, 16, 18, 20 fastened together. Fixed to the lengthwise bars 14, 16 of each of the frames are regularly spaced pins 22 for the positioning of punches 24 and dies 26, each punch and each die consisting of a flat bar with two holes 28 through its ends, the punches 24 being positioned on one of the frames 12 with its holes being located on two pins situated on the two lengthwise bars on one transverse line only of the frame, while the dies 26 are positioned in the same way on the other frame.
