A method of storing, analyzing and accessing video data from the surveillance cameras operated by multiple, unrelated users is provided. Data storage and analysis is performed by an independent system remotely located at a third party site, the third party site and the users connected via a network. Users access stored video data using any of a variety of devices coupled to the network. In one aspect, users submit configuration instructions which govern how long their data is to be stored, the frequency of data acquisition/storage, data communication parameters/protocols, and video resolution. In another aspect, users remotely obtain from the third party system a graphical view of the video data acquired from a particular camera, the graphical view showing the activity monitored by the camera versus time. In yet another aspect, users submit zone configuration instructions to the third party system. In yet another aspect, users remotely submit rules of analysis, such as time-based and/or shaped-based rules, to be applied to their acquired video data by the third party system.

Home security detectors configured with the control components of the home comprising interactive detectors enhanced to support location-awareness and home occupant-awareness and functionality. The system includes at least one motion sensor configured with communication devices operatively arranged to transmit information about any motion of occupants in the various sections of the home as part of the information about the occupancy of the home during an emergency. At least one sensor is provided in various rooms of a home each sensing a state of the home. A central communication device is coupled, wired or wirelessly, directly or indirectly, to each home sensor configured to transmit the state of the home. The number of occupants in the home are determined by at least one body heat sensor and at least one heartbeat sensor each configured with the interactive detectors to detect the presence of emergency and home occupants and to know the present situations such as their heartbeats, such that the number of occupants and their locations are determinable from the number of detected body heat and their security and safety conditions are determinable by their heartbeats. The detection method includes the steps of sensing a state of the home and transmitting the state of the home to at least a server. Images of the home are captured by at least a camera means configured with at least a MOS and/or CMOS based active sensor array for producing real-time images and stored in the server for wireless retrieval. The images ideally include at least an intruder of the home. The server is configured with a central processor for enabling controlling security vigilance monitoring and for enabling rapid distribution of detection data, voice, and other detection signals within the monitoring environment. The system establishes a network which includes configuring home audio/visual devices, media destination means such as televisions, monitors, PDAs, notepads, notebooks, MP3, wireless stereo, cell phones etc for the detection means. The control server supports video/audio servings, telephony, messaging, file sharing, internetworking, and security monitoring and allows home occupants to access and control the home network environment from any location within a controlled residential, commercial/industrial and/or non-residential, commercial/industrial environment with at least a computer means such as a cell phone.

A docking system for a personal communication terminal includes a base and a motorized mount joining the dock to the base and configured to rotate the dock about a vertical axis in response to a pan signal and about a horizontal axis in response to a tilt signal. The docking system further comprises a sensor array to produce signals indicative of the location of a user, a processor to convert the sensor output signals to tracking signals, and a controller to convert the tracking signals to pan and tilt signals, thereby to aim a camera.

Multimedia Telecommunication Apparatus With Motion Tracking

An image-taking apparatus and an image-taking system are disclosed which can protect the privacy of a person whose image is taken, and which can avoid the distribution of images of unnecessarily large data volumes. The image-taking apparatus includes an image-taking optical system, an image-pickup device, a controller which performs, by using the image-pickup device, image-taking in a first mode and in a second mode in which image-taking is carried out with more pixels or at a lower frame rate than in the first mode. The controller determines whether a condition relating to image-taking matches a predetermined restriction condition, and restricts image-taking in the second mode or distribution of an image taken in the second mode when that restriction condition is met.

A method of remotely detecting rule violations at an outdoor site according to one aspect of the invention includes installing a self-contained VMU at the outdoor site near ground elevation, including affixing a chassis of the VMU to a permanent mount. The VMU is operated in a low-power standby mode that includes passively monitoring an ambient magnetic field at the outdoor site to detect a disturbance caused by a presence of a substantial ferrous object. In response to a detection of a disturbance in the ambient magnetic field, the VMU exits the low-power standby mode and initiates an active operating mode. The active operating mode includes operating a video camera by the VMU to capture video data; and wirelessly transmitting a signal representing at least a portion of the video data to a computer network. The video data is received by a remote node in the computer network via the computer network, and stored in association with a database record.

Remote video monitoring of non-urban outdoor sites

Disclosed are systems and methods for facilitating surveillance of an area. In one embodiment, a system and a method comprise capturing images of the area under surveillance using a portable digital camera, detecting motion occurring within the area under surveillance, and storing images of the area under surveillance captured by the digital camera.
