Journal ArticleDOI

Artificial Selection and Environmental Change: Countervailing Factors Affecting the Timing of Spawning by Coho and Chinook Salmon

TL;DR: The mean spawning dates of coho salmon Oncorhynchus kisutch and chinook salmon O. tshawytscha at the University of Washington Hatchery have become earlier over the period of record at the UW Hatchery, apparently because of selection in the hatchery.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Freshwater and Marine Growth Rates on Early Maturity in Male Coho and Chinook Salmon

TL;DR: The size of the smolts (but not growth potential at sea) was positively correlated with the proportion of the jacks maturing after only one summer at sea (so-called minijacks) rather than two summers, and theportion of males maturing as jacks increased with smolt size but not with the potential for growth at sea.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influences of freshwater and marine growth on the egg size-egg number tradeoff in coho and Chinook salmon

TL;DR: In the coho salmon, reductions in length, condition factor, and size-adjusted fecundity over the past decades combined to reduce overall average fecundities to only about half its former level.
