An energy storage system and a method of controlling the same is provided. The energy storage system may directly provide generated DC power or DC power stored in a battery to a DC load without performing a DC/AC conversion or an AC/DC conversion. Furthermore, in the case where a grid operates abnormally (e.g. power interruption) and the energy storage system functions as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), power stored in a battery may be selectively provided to loads according to power remaining in a battery, and thus stored power may be used stably.

Chargers are connectable with vehicles. An electric supply controller controls a switching circuit to connect an electric power supply line to one of the chargers. A storage unit of the electric supply controller associates information on a priority to each of the vehicles and stores the associated information therein. When the vehicles are simultaneously connected to different chargers, a control unit of the electric supply controller controls the switching circuit to connect the electric power supply line preferentially to one of the different chargers. The one of the different chargers is connected to one of the vehicles assigned with a highest priority.

A controller executes local generation and local consumption pathways of: supplying power from a solar cell to an appliance, and charging a storage cell with power that remains after subtracting power consumed by the appliance from the solar cell power. In the absence of excess power, the storage cell and solar cell supply power. Power supply from a commercial electrical grid covers a power shortage that remains after subtracting solar cell power and storage cell power from the power consumed by the appliance. The controller also executes a second excess power selling mode pathway wherein excess power flows into the commercial electrical grid, and an assist mode wherein all solar cell power flows into the commercial electrical grid, and storage cell power flows to the appliance.

When a power failure detecting part 11 detects stop of the main power supply 10, a power supply control part 12 supplies power to the DC device 102 from the distributed power supply 20. The DC device 102 includes a switching part 102c selecting propriety of power reception to a main function part 102a from a DC supply line Wdc, a limiting part 102d starting clocking of time limit when detection of stop of the main power supply 10 by the power failure detecting part 11 is informed through a power reception-side communication part 102b, and a power reception control part 102e turning off the switching part 102c when time limit expires. SOLUTION: In the interphone system handing images and voices, in addition to radio communication interfaces 29a, 39a in which the communication characteristics vary, depending on the difference of a communication environment including a communication distance and a building structure, even though the data rate is high, power line communication interfaces 29b, 39b are provided for other communication paths without dedicated signal lines. At installation or start of communication, each receiving side in control units 26, 36 decides on the communication quality from an image packet rate, the S/N ratio, etc., and transmits the decision result to the transmission side via the power line communication interfaces 29b, 39b, so that communication thereafter is performed via the radio, when the reception is proper; while the communication thereafter is performed via the power line, when the reception is not proper. SOLUTION: The master unit B includes a timing determining means which transmits a timing signal for designating communication timing t1 for starting the next communication with the slave unit A whenever communicating with the slave unit A. The slave unit A includes a switching means which can select two operating states being a ready state for making a communication part inactive and an operating state for making the communication part active, operates in the ready state just before the communication timing t1 of the received timing signal, and switches the operating states according to a time clocked by its own clock part so as to shift to the operating state just before the communication timing t1 to thereby start communication with the master unit B at the communication timing t1.
