Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of natural aging on the formation and strengthening effect of G.P. zones in a retrogression and re-aged Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy

TL;DR: In this paper, a new four-stage aging treatment by employing a natural aging prior to re-aging is designed to promote GP zones formation and subsequent shear-able strengthening effect in an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantitative transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography study of Ag-dependent precipitation of Ω phase in Al-Cu-Mg alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the relationship between the Ω precipitation and various Ag additions by quantitative transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography analysis and found that the precipitation of Ω phase is strongly dependent on Ag variations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of the electron-beam welded joints of cast Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy

TL;DR: In this article, the microstructures of the electron-beam welded joints of cast Al-Cu-Mg-Ag alloy plate were investigated in terms of the element segregation, grain structure and precipitation behavior by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope and atom probe tomography observation as well as differential scanning calorimetry.
Journal ArticleDOI

The influence of preaging on the strength and precipitation behavior of a deformed Al-Cu-Mg-Ag alloy

TL;DR: In this article, preaging prior to deformation is evaluated to evaluate its possible influence on improving the typical microstructure and strength of deformed Al-Cu-Mg-Ag alloy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of small Er addition on the microstructural evolution and strength properties of an Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy aged at 200°C

TL;DR: In this article, the microstructures of Al-Cu-Mg-Ag alloys with and without small Er addition were investigated by optical metallographic examination, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and quantitative transmission electron microscope (TEM) characterization to explore the potential effect of Er on the tensile properties.
